Wednesday - last morning, last brunch, last Steve-O-Reno's. Also got empanadas to eat at the airport since we'd get there early. Took the bus there, there was a guy playing music and cake for an airport employee's 65th. Even a place to buy live lobster to take on your flight home.
Figured we'd chill on the waterfront for our last evening here. Just a nice place to sit down and take in the sights and vibes.
One last donair, tried snappy tomato. Really good tbh, they add a bit of spicy in theirs which goes great with the sweet sauce.
Did one last round of the breweries to buy some cans to bring back. Good robot had some soccer team party and amazing pizza. Propellor was playing old Simpsons eps we got absorbed into. 2 crows still haven't fixed their dishwasher. All great beer tho looking forward to sharing these back home.
Went to the Marines museum since it was open later on Tuesdays, but surprise it was also free?? Cool stuff, lots of models and things to see. So much history to learn about, really interesting how technology improves incrementally.
We'd been recommended Cows so we had to try it. Funny names and great variety, i went with nanaimoo and pei strawberry.
Went to the stillwell beergarden. Had a beer and fresh pretzel, great cheese jalapeno sauce. Then we went to bulwark cider, again a nice spot. Great cider, bought some to bring back and share with the friends.
Went to the public gardens after. Joined a free tour, got a nice overview of the history of the place. Very nice, calm spot. Lots of nice trees and ppl reading on benches.
Went for lunch at a great Japanese spot called Ko-Doraku. Had an eel Bento, came with karaage, sushi, spring rolls, salad, miso soup. Good decor and ambience as well.
Went jogging with Dom this time, back at it again at point pleasant park.
Durty Nelly's had been recommended as an iconic Irish pub and did not disappoint. Had chowder with a black velvet. There was a trivia night going on, lots of activities in pubs on the off nights here, it was still kinda packed for a Monday. Anyway now we sleep, tomorrow's our last full day here.
We opted to once more walk back downtown for more drinks. Cool sunset over the citadel.
Went to to try the Oxford tap room right next to KoD... Turns out it's all the same taps as Garrison, which we just tried everything of. So we tried a few cans, still, good stuff, cool place. Seems like a retrofitted theater shared with a climbing gym? Awesome tbh
King of donair time! It was good. I honestly thought it was similar enough to Tony's that a clear winner didn't stand out. Flavor maybe very slightly better, but meat very slightly drier. Would have to try again. Garlic fingers good too, had to try.
We wanted to check out King of donair after, since we had to compare it to Tony's. Decided to walk there to see a bit more of the city. Path took us through the Dalhousie uni campus, really cool place, old buildings and all.
Went to Garrison brewing next to the museum, they really know how to do flights there, 13 tasters on the end of a barrel. Great stuff, the mango dragonfruit hibiscus sour was the highlight so i got done to go. Birds have nice plumage here too.
Monday. Slow start but went to pier 21 for the museum of immigration. Really interesting, spent much more time there than expected. Got me wondering if grandpa went through here, we'll never know.
We went for food again, this time with teach, kal, and other friends. Food after events is always a good way to end things. Fun discussions, good drinks.
We're still here for a few more days if anyone wants to hang out, but this seems like the end of one chapter.
Ended up watching some ssbu and melee while waiting to go for food. Pretty entertaining, crowd was really into it, lots of regional rivalries and passion.
Overall a good event, def makes me want to return to this scene at some point.
KoH day 3.
Got 3rd in gbvsr, played alright. A few important mistakes but to be expected. Glad i was able to play most of the ppl at least. Was even able to play some dfci lol.
Sunday time.
First up, an old bb friend invited us over to the cafe he works at so we had brunch there before bracket. Awesome vibe, great food, and loved the ryo fukui album playing.
KoH was fun, met the local bbcf players, cool ppl. Glad i was able to win, a bit less pressure to perform well tomorrow heh. Went out for food with some of the gbvsr gang after that, good times.
Didn't have to be at KoH until much later so i has half a breakfast at the hostel and went to the waterfront to round it off. Lots more people today, and even several ppl playing live music.
Went back to point pleasant park for a jog this morning. 20k as the training plan tells me to, didn't drink any alcohol yesterday so felt pretty good. Stopped at a few of the memorial monuments i missed the other time i went.
Lehman then drove us to Peggy's Cove. It was super foggy so we couldn't see super far, but it did give off a really nice vibe. Kinda like we were in some old novel.
Lehman took us to a Japanese restaurant. Sushi ramen and tonkatsu, yum
Kings of Hali! Spacious venue, just hung out and played some casuals, said hi, met some of the Atlantic players, good times.
They had several indoor exhibits. One about Halifax history, and one more of an army history. Interesting stuff!
They fire a cannon every day at noon, lucky timing that we were there for it. It was used to allow ships to properly readjust their clocks, but the tradition has persisted. It was very loud, but they warned us when to cover our ears.
The place is really well preserved. Several ppl in historic uniforms. They have these big ship masts which they used for a network of signals, to allow for quick communications throughout the city.
