Wildest fourth quarter too. Intentionally fouling Wizards to get ball back asap for Bam. And then Wizards fouling others to keep ball away from him some. 😆
Yeah! And my university's Music School should definitely offer a degree where students don't practice, but instead ask AI to practice critically for them. They'll be awesome at playing music, right?
Oh FFS. "Using AI critically" isn't on the goddamned menu in my courses because this is college, not a fake professional school's program in Becoming Stupid.
I had to learn your lesson here quickly after moving to New England for grad school. Quickly realized I may not have friends if my aggression about Dunkin’s bad coffee continued. Oh and also discovered that glory of their chocolate doughnut stick … the “poo stick” 🤷♂️
literally your customer base was 90% parents of young children who want a good future for their kids in which they can be free to be themselves, no matter who they are. you told those people to go fuck themselves. they won't be back
...Target won't do the thing that would change our minds: fire the executive suite with zero golden-parachutes and then donate the entirety of their corporate profits for their "anti-woke" policy period to orgs that provide housing, health, and services for trans people. Oh, and pay living wages.
Pretty much. Just my anecdotal self-evidence: My wife and I used to drive an hour and a half to the closest Target because we liked Target. It wasn't often and we'd plan the trip around other things too. But Target was a goal. We don't do that anymore and won't ever again...
Maybe Kash's girlfriend and Elon could co-edit a volume on "What Rural and Working-Class America Wants" and invite all the folks they party with every day as contributors. Doubtless ChatGPT or Grok can write the essays.
...and it feels like I just had a plausible vision of the future 🤮
As an aside, I didn’t realize what a grifting fuck Lee Greenwood is until that John Oliver segment on him. Though I think this still makes me a winner since I hasn’t positively chosen to use my time to learn about him before. 🤷♂️
Maybe all broadcasts have Lee Greenwood as intro music?
PBR still counts as beer!!
Hey! Thanks for reading and the kind words, and noticing something about my profile I didn't. Many thanks. Hope all is well.
So like, him and others in his admin?
Reddit is saying that at least four of the men's team aren't going tonight...
-Oh, and guys USA men's hockey team, after you say this, then don't show up to be a prop for Trump's regime tonight. Aside from being the right thing to do, you'll be profiles in courage compared to others in USA Men's hockey. Shouldn't courage and "doing the right thing" be American virtues?
The epic and awesome US women's hockey team gold medal picture!
The US men's hockey team gold medal picture, with a jersey for Gaudreau and one of his kids in the middle.
I know the USA Men's hockey team won't hear me, but whatever...
-Guys, your 🥇 win was epic & awesome, just like our women's team. Stop listening to US Hockey PR and say:
"I'm sorry we laughed along with the President's misogyny. We need to be better. It's always wrong to belittle and mock women."
Here @thomaszimmer.bsky.social captures a consistent feature of actually existing conservative movements: in history, almost nothing in them hits the brakes on going Far Right, violent, authoritarian b/c "the left" is always their bigger boogeyman even if their guy is building concentration camps...
Their allegiance was never to democratic principles, but to upholding (white, Christian) “civilization”. The question has always been: What if society moves away from that order? Do Conservatives accommodate – or seek to impose “civilization” against majority will?
Friends, I am hiring two scholar-advisors this year! Come join the best advising team in the country (for real). Please help me spread the news about this great opportunity! This is a permanent, non-time limited instructional staff position, and I will be happy to answer questions!
Question: if it can log into canvas & see other students’ work… isn’t that a FERPA violation? Students can do waivers for their own products. But they can’t waive FERPA protections for classmates? We’re told we have to use canvas because of data privacy requirements…
A recent NYT op-ed blamed the Trump's regime's lawless violence on 'paganism' while conjuring Christianity as the source of good values. I think this is a terrible way to think about history and gets in the way of cleaning up the messes Christians have made. My latest from @religiondispatches.org
One more time for those in the back: To the extent AI does any of the 'research' things dude 'splains..
1) No, AI doesn't do actual research
2) AI is unreliable at them, which is why scholars have to check it
3) AI can only do a crappy job at any of this BECAUSE BIG-TECH FUCKING STOLE OUR RESEARCH!
Because from the educational side of things, the point of the academic paper was famously always just the actual end product, not the process.
And on the research side of things ... yeah, dude showing that he doesn't understand research while 'splaining research to researchers 🤡
Ha. I don't know either. One publisher told me it was a mistake and they may fix it, another didn't explain. Both permanently lost a regular and pretty large textbook order from my courses...
And to be clear, this nonsense is not the fault of our campus bookstore's staff themselves. These arrangements seem to come from some level of on-high that's above any decision makers on our actual campus?
In theory the bookstore provides hardcopies of some books, but as profs we can't control that. My orders only ever are 'filled' with ebooks. Even worse, some publishers make the e-versions worthless by removing line-numbers from ancient text. How the fuck do you teach the Iliad without line numbers?
We can even boil AI ruin down to capitalist logic...
Hey employers, do you like applicants with the rock bottom basic abilities to read, understand a project, restate goals in their own words, summarize, communicate about simple topics, ask questions? AI ruins ALL OF THAT and you will pay for it!
I cannot stress enough that without such device-removing course redesigns, for which work professors are not being compensated (!), AI absolutely ends any semblance of a learning and discussion community in the classroom plus almost any educational benefit for students.
My courses now (w/o accommodation letter) ban all devices in class, have only in-class handwritten or oral assessment, and require printed handouts of readings since university only provides e-versions of books. I often provide handouts, though it's been an enormous waste of my time to make them.
