The weather is back to front. I just left blue skies in Melbourne and have landed in torrential rain on the Gold Coast. Wtf haha ๐

I love the comedy employed by the Yarra Trams staff while they get us to Albert Park in the mornings. Yesterday it was โfirst class is at the front, there will be champagne on arrivalโ. Today it was โthis team is for Red Bull fans onlyโ ๐ #AustralianGP ๐ฆ๐บ
Amazing line from Mario Andretti just now in pitlane. When asked what is the secret to his eternal youth, he said that racing is his life and โit will be like this until they put me in a box. And that box better have wheels on itโ #AustralianGP ๐ฆ๐บ
The potential good news would be that as we go along, it might only require an adjustment in the regs in terms of โmore of thisโ and โless of thatโ until we get the balance right so they can race each other. Or am I just being an optimist? :)
In terms of the actual *racing* you mean? Yes I am. My prediction is for a tedious race. And Iโm saying that because I want to be proven 100% wrong and roundly mocked afterwards :)
There were 86,210 people at the track yesterday. F1 cars didnโt even run (!) #AustralianGP
Good morning from cloudy Melbourne. Happy Formula 1 Christmas Day everybody! #AustralianGP
Guess which idiot did a sponsor engagement with Lando Norris this evening and forgot to take a decent picture #AustralianGP ๐ฆ๐บ
So is everyone excited for the #AustralianGP or more apprehensive given the brand new technical rules this season?
Must-read Matt, as always :)
Thank you for the compliment!
Thanks! I have been saying for years that thereโs a TV audience for what I routinely do with stats and history in our hospitality spaces, but Iโm still waiting for somebody to biteโฆ
I've only ever seen one episode of Drive To Survive, so i'm probably not a real F1 fan
ICYMI, I got to vent a considerable amount of my nerd F1 knowledge this past weekend when commentating at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival. How much can we say about the 1988 Lola LC88? ๐ฆ๐บ
Hello Formula 1 fans around the world. Is this thing still on? #AustralianGP
Genius :)
So which driver will choose #33?
To whom it concerns, I *can* tell when a person is pretending to be interested because they think I can get them into a Grand Prix or onto a yacht for free, but if youโre gonna do it then donโt ask questions like โwhen is the next race?โ or โwho is leading the championship?โ
Iโm working both events. Blimey Charlieโฆ
West, Gitanes, Gauloises, Camel. It's all 1980s-1990s F1 to me...
San Diego Padres and F1 you say? What an eclectic mix!
I've written about what F1 might look like in another 75 years, with a little help from McLaren, @virtualstatman.bsky.social and Lucas di Grassi:

If we end up with a tie on points, they should decide this F1 title like a talent show. All three drivers come out to the podium and David Croft opens an envelope and says โthe winner of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship ISโฆโ #AbuDhabiGP
LOL, this is the first Iโve heard of this!
The other part of it is that it's back-to-back race weekends, which is very busy. I worked about 4 hours on the overnight flight to London, did 3 more hours at Heathrow, then another 4-5 hours on the London-Doha flight, and I *still* wasn't finished when I got here at 5:00am on Wednesday morning.
I canโt even begin to tell you how jet lagged I feel after moving forward 11 time zones from the US west coast. Which means there are a LOT of very exhausted personnel in the F1 pit and paddock this weekend. Anyone who says it doesnโt affect them is lying #QatarGP ๐ถ๐ฆ
It is also the first time a Ferrari has been slowest in qualifying since Giancarlo Fisichella in Abu Dhabi in 2009 #LasVegasGP
That is the first time Lewis Hamilton has been the slowest qualifier on pure pace in his Formula 1 career #LasVegasGP
Formula 1 drivers at 200mph on extreme wet tyres and tying to find the grip in qualifying. For all the criticisms that the #LasVegasGP is all style and no substance, this is proper F1 right now...
To all F1 fans in the western time zones of the United States: Does the #LasVegasGP feel like **your** regional home Grand Prix, compared to Austin and/or Miami? I asked this question last year and so many people answered no!
