Is anyone else having trouble with @libbyapp.com today? I can’t sync shelves on any device all of a sudden and it won’t even let me clear data and start from scratch.

Also as a rider I used to pick them for the smooth ride and now they’re speeding up to stop signs all the time and it makes me carsick just like a chaotic rideshare driver!
I just crossed the street at a crosswalk in front of a #Waymo. It stopped for me, but as I was walking it continued to slowly creep forward in the same unsettling way some human drivers do. I still think they’re safer than the average driver on the street, but they’re becoming jerks! #sanfrancisco
NVM, it's working for me again. :)
So, uh, is @thestorygraph.com down? #booksky
For any authors concerned about their books being stolen to train AI, this is @societyofauthors.bsky.social's suggestion for how to respond.
Is there a place to find supplemental pdfs for audiobooks on @netgalley.bsky.social? This is one that really just comes up with nonfiction, but I love a nonfiction listen. #booksky #nonfiction #audiobooks
Ok except why are we having to pin him on DEI? Isn’t he just a horrible hire?
Oh shit.
Discourse! Time to elevate the national debate.
Have any of you read The Dream Hotel by Laila Lalami? I just got to part 3 and I swear I seems like my reader glitched and served me a whole different book! Would like to discuss. #booksky #litfic
I really liked it!
I read it a year or two ago and haven't followed up with the others in the series yet. I do think that theme of what does and doesn't feel real about wartime comes up a lot in books from the time, especially in England where the population was so directly effected by the blitz but not occupied.
All that to say "Thank you!!" and also "Omg why isn't it on most of the books!?"
Ok, interesting. I went through and looked at the books I was wondering about (mostly non-fiction or history where I'm like, yeah I want 300 pages on this topic but not 600, etc.) and I did see it on one book, but it was missing from the other 12 that I looked at!
Mike has been a friend of mine since we were young reporters at the @washingtonpost.com in the 1980s. He brims with talent, integrity and commitment to the truth. This is exactly what I expected and he had hoped he could stave off, which is a trash move by trash people. Throw them out.
Is there a secret place on @netgalley.bsky.social that shows how long books are? I feel like that would make my decisions about what to request 100000x more informed.
Just finished How to Live Free in a Dangerous World. Shayla Lawson transported me around the world and taught me about her perspectives oncolonialism (as the subtitle suggests) but also identity/gender, sex, and power.Am looking forward to digging into her back catalog. #booksky #memoir #essays
The ONE person who benefits from defunding Libby/Overdrive and libraries is Jeff Bezos.

I really loved it and it’s made me read and think about books differently. An interesting parallel is that your bios lead with Pawn Stars, which never really comes up in the book. It reminded me of your insight that mentioning Jane Austen (or Shakespeare) increases the value of the a rare book.
Another thing that makes me love this book is that, though @lauriewoolever.bsky.social is a mother, her identity in this novel is not "mother." I suspect that's part of what makes reviewers so uncomfortable. Shout out to @harpercollins.bsky.social's imprint Ecco for normalizing these stories.
For those who discount this story because @lauriewoolever.bsky.social did not expose Mario Batali: Moral perfection is not a prerequisite for having a story to tell. We constantly glorify male chef-child stories. Why does it make us uncomfortable for a woman to write about doing the same things?
I'm pretty proud of my review of @lauriewoolever.bsky.social's Care and Feeding.
This book is an unflinching account of her lived experience.
Some reviewers seem to hope the book will answer questions about the men she's worked with. She's told their stories. This is hers.

I’m reading Care and Feeding by @lauriewoolever.bsky.social and listening to Butter by Asako Yuzuki. Am really enjoying both but the themes of excess and gluttony in both books are swirling my brain into cocktail of butter, pork belly and French wine. #booksky #foodsky
He does not sound hot.
To be clear, I get the books from libraries or as digital ARCs!
There are certain books that I like to have on hand to give as gifts, but otherwise I don’t even usually own most of the books I read. Last year I read more than 500 books so I wouldn’t have the space or cash to buy them all!
If you’re a Jane Austen fan, and of course you are, you’ve got to get Jane Austen’s Bookshelf. It’s such a fun read, I learned a lot, and it’s been so fun to start digging into the works of the authors she writes about.
I think my favorite is Emma but I also love Northanger Abbey (def the funniest to me)—if you want more books like hers, I recommend reading Jane Austen’s Bookshelf by @rebeccaromney.com. It’s really interesting on its own, and I’ve been enjoying reading the authors that she talks about.
Ok this one really did not do it for me (I loved her first novel and all her nonfiction) but I’m glad you liked it!!
