Oh, right. Bluesky exists.
What's good on here these days?

I watched one #Writing YouTube drama video and suddenly my algorithm is full of the WORST takes. Folks, writers, craft-focused friends: please be a million percent less smug about "writerly" content creators. It doesn't help, and it is just going to hurt new writers. lovemakeshare.ca/2025/07/24/s...
I. love. designing. game logos. Capturing the soul of a thing, and keeping it captive within a small picture with some type. I just love the problem solving and the beauty of it.
TL;DR I'm tired of survivors being found to be "not credible" and I think prosecution in these cases need to do a better job of supporting and preparing their clients.
And if I'm noticing this, while not paying close attention, then I wonder how deep it goes. Are we simply not preparing women appropriately to participate in these cases? It undermines the whole project when survivors aren't supported properly, to say nothing of the damage to them personally.
I'll take you at your word on that! I don't know enough about legal precedent to speak to it. I can however think of three high-profile cases about abuse & harassment now where it seems like lawyers from the Crown let their clients take the stand totally unprepared, and it damaged their credibility.
The Hockey Canada sexual assault verdict today is raising a concern about systemic failures, but not the ones I think you might be thinking about.
Does Canada have a serious problem with how Crown prosecutors prepare key witnesses in abuse & harassment cases? Is this an emerging pattern?
Really quite happy with the visual improvements that the latest few patches have brought to #bulwark.
Very nice effect!
What do you mean, sell *products* to *users?* I thought users are what we're selling?
It’s fascinating how much money there is to be made in the field of making search engines worse
Enshittification is wild.
The Internet - and my whole digital existence - have felt increasingly hostile lately. #OpenSource has been an antidote to that. So here are some reflections of a #FOSS neophyte, appropriately written on a Microsoft product running #Ubuntu. lovemakeshare.ca/2025/06/16/o...
#writing #blog #GDevelop
Me when people suggest I use AI to make writing go faster. No, I promise you it won't. It'll just make me angrier.
Work on my game tonight has been brought to a screeching halt by a fresh new mysterious failure of my #FrameworkLaptop, which I clearly jinxed, because I was just thinking about how nice it is to use and how great it's been working since the new main board installation from the last set of issues.
Adding some 3D models and swapping between 2D and 3D physics taught me how to activate/deactivate behaviours on the fly, so I can now switch from pathfinding to physics-based movement once the Hunter is near the player.
#GDevelop #bHopper #devlog #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #retrogaming
Thus far, the pathfinding behaviour has been a real barrier to making more quick, responsive, and dynamic movements for the Hunter. In #GDevelop, if an object has both Pathfinding and Physics 2D behaviours, it will simply stop pathfinding.
#bHopper #devlog #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #retrogaming
It legitimately jump-scared me last night while testing - appeared from the side like the raptors in Jurassic Park and annihilated me mid-delivery - but it often gets a stuck trying to pathfind and isn't as aggressive as it could be.
#bHopper #devlog #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #retrogaming
While all of the to-dos are important, I think the next thing I need to really *see* in my game is the Hunter as a more imposing force. I have a state machine, behaviours and attack types planned that I think will make it truly fearsome.
#bHopper #devlog #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #retrogaming
There's only so far you can go in a prototype with programmer and temp art before you need to start to *see* the game.
#bHopper #devlog #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #retrogaming
I got into #Blender and UI instead of focusing on the refactor and AI items - which I think is helpful, and exciting, but I really should return to some core gameplay items soon.

bHopper: Hunted Trello board. Lists include Design Pillars (Speed, Fear of the Hunters, Sense of Place, and Managed Chaos), 2025 Re-Kickoff - To Dos (including some completed items, some in progress, and some not started), and Known Issues.
Quick #bHopper status check over lunch, tweaked and marked stuff off my Trello board. Keeping my pillars in mind and seeing where I am in the "Project Relaunch" to-do list. 🧵

A similar screenshot as previous, but with mobile controls overlaid on the screen.
The large location notification doesn't stay on the screen, it appears and disappears contextually so it doesn't obscure the screen when it's not needed. Work in progress - especially the mobile UI graphics - but it is finally in progress!

A screenshot of a retro-styled top-down game featuring a flying car in the middle of the screen. The UI is now much more designed - it's teal and segmented and looks like it's being displayed on an old CRT, with a combination of pixel fonts and cyberpunk-styled fonts. Numbers are labelled - ammo for the Ion Gun, the wallet, fines, a starting fee for the next delivery. A large notification pane shows the pickup location for the current job: MUSESMART.
There isn't going to be much text in the game outside the information you get during deliveries, so it needs a place to shine. I want to make sure that we're communicating *enough* and *appropriate* and *timely* information to the player.

A screenshot of a retro-styled top-down game featuring a flying car in the middle of the screen. The UI is mostly limited to floating, unstyled numbers in the corners of the screen.
My focus for the next set of updates to #bHopper is fleshing out the main delivery loop a little, and giving myself the tools to build out the world. Additionally, I'm building out the UI.
