This is an excerpt from the MAD Magazine article "Choose Your Fantasy Football Team Carefully!" The article was written by Matt Cohen and illustrated by Hermann Mejia. The text reads:
LEAGUE NAME: The Sys-FUN-ctionals (Your dad made that pun)
Who's In It? Your entire extended family
Season's Winner: Inherits Grandpa's NFL memorabelia collection (...eventually! He's only 65, you ghoul!)
Season's Loser: Has to pretend that Uncle Bruce has valid opinions about sports.
The art is divided into two panels. The first shows the winner eying a collection of football memorabilia including a game ball, a helmet, trading cards, and a Funko figure. The second panel depicts the loser being forced to listen to their uncle ranting about team names. He's shouting "How can they change the name to The Commanders?!?! Serious sports fans know the key to being a great team is a great logo!"
The new issue of MAD Magazine is out now. It includes a new piece from me... but don't let *that* stop you from picking up a copy! Enjoy this excerpt until you can make it to your friendly neighborhood comic shop.

This image features two panels from Superman Smashes The Klan written by Gene Luen Yang with art by Gurihiru (AKA Chifuyu Sasaki and Naoko Kawano.) It shows Daily Planet editor Perry White talking to his reporter Clark Kent.
PERRY WHITE: It's just... the Klan Of The Fiery Kross kidnapped a kid? Here in Metropolis? Great Caesar's ghost, is the really my city?
CLARK KENT: But they didn't get away with it, right? Superman...
PERRY WHITE: That's just it. Superman did something. And so should we.

Last year CGE decided to publish a new Harry Potter themed edition of their popular game Codenames. People were unhappy. Eventually, CGE said they'd donate 100% of their profits from the game to charity... but that's an insufficient response. Money would still go to Rowling and some of that would...

None of those jokes are punching down. Expecting people to not resort to lazy cruelty doesn't ruin comedy.
Keep that in mind as you listen to the promotional campaign for Scary Movie where their strategy seems to be "boast about how we're cool because we're not afraid to offend people."

Make a list of your 5 favorite comedies. Then think of your favorite joke from each of them.
How many of those jokes were funny because they made fun of minorities or marginalized groups? If the number was low, then "cancel culture" isn't killing comedy.

It just hit me: Daniel Day-Lewis. John-Andrew Morrison. What's up with hyphenated actors playing Lincoln?

This is a still of Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story 5.
Iβm skipping Pixar's Toy Story 5 because we have no way of knowing who executives erased this time. Did they cut a trans story (like they did in Win Or Lose,) queer representation (like they did in Elio,) or are they breaking new ground in bigotry by cutting screen time for some other group?

This is the text that used to come up at the start of a movie. It says "This DVD is for private home viewing only. It is not authorized for any other use. Any public performance, copying or other use is strictly prohibited. Duplication in whole or in part of this DVD is prohibited. All other rights reserved."
This is another anti-piracy warning. It says "Piracy is not a victimless crime. For more information on how digital theft harms the economy, please visit www.iprcenter.gov." If you go to that website now, you can see that they've sold their soul and they're offering training on how artificial intelligence can be "used by brands to bolster IP and brand protection practices."
Remember when movie studios warned us that piracy was not a victimless crime?
That was back in the good old days before companies realized that *they* could use generative AI to pirate content from *us.* #AIisTheft #paytheartists #aiart
