I think of all those kids who need badly need the support and how we have to help them. I asked the Minister back in Fenruary if there was a plan to offset these funding cuts. There isn't. We need the GNWT to step up, at least until we can sort out a fix with Ottawa. #nwtpoli #education
The loss of 79 educational assistants at YK1 is devastating to our schools. We've known that cuts to Jordan's Principle's funding were going to impact education but this is simply too much.
Immediate Next Steps: The GNWT is re-testing all school water sources where elevated lead levels were previously reported, using best practices and appropriate methodology. Results will be shared as soon as they are received—first with schools and families, and then with the public.
Result Integrity in Question: As a result, the validity of the initial tests—particularly where elevated lead levels were reported—is now in question. Although the original intent was to complete testing quickly, the lack of expert involvement compromised the reliability the process & the results.
