I hadn't heard it before I got my first alert either, and thought the same thing! I guess "slow big flood" didn't have quite the same gravitas when contrasted with "flash flood", so they came up with this instead. π
I realize you might be joking, but since this once confused me too I will respond in earnest. Areal (not aerial) flood warning = severe flooding that occurs gradually over a broad area: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YB6B...
Illustration of a red-haired fantasy archer woman, a blonde-haired sci-fi pilot woman, and a dark-haired post-apocalyptic fighter woman.
My daughter designed this cool image for my Self-Rescuing Princesses blog, representing the three genres that I usually write about (sci-fi, fantasy, and dystopian). I'm so proud of her! If you need character sketches, check her out at ko-fi.com/dailumii
"Meaningless to whom" and "useful to whom" is my question there, because it's meaningful and useful to an awful lot of us.
That is a baffling argument to me given that the *diagnostic criteria* are literally common. People may experience them in different ways and to different degrees, but that's true about a lot of things.
A thought experiment occurred to me today.
Suppose you gave claude a dataset and asked it make a function modeling the outputs; let's say, GMO use in corn grown in Iowa. (I'm tweaking something I'll credit in this thread)
And you get a result like this. Hey, that looks pretty good! p < 0.01
Iβm having a hard time putting words to my thoughts so for now Iβm sharing @neurodivergentrebel.substack.com, thank you for articulating this so well π

The #onechicago crossover with the #upstead reunion just reminds me of how much I miss the old dynamics between the PD chars. Voight-Al, Al-Ruzek, Voight-Jay, Jay-Hailey, Kim-Kevin (when they were on patrol). The new chars just haven't clicked with each other in the same way for me.
Same! It would be nice if there really was a perfect algorithm to line up readers and writers so we could just focus more on writing. I always feel bad asking people to buy my books.
New blog post! The 20th book in the Pike Logan series doesnβt disappoint, bringing back one of Pikeβs most formidable enemies. #readingcommunity #booksky #books www.selfrescuingprincesses.com/shadow-strik...
Oh, yes, that was so convenient!
Love that. As for me - my email is old enough to drink. I learned to program in BASIC and assembler. I played the original Zork and NES. The modem sound and "You've got mail" from AOL are burned into my brain. Seriously, older folks are here for the same reason everyone else is. wtf.
Mostly I favor hopeful endings, but that doesn't necessarily mean a traditional "happily ever after". Sometimes it's happy in an unexpected way; sometimes there's a little bittersweet mixed in. It really depends on what the story calls for.
A graph showing 15% of my readers coming from Australia last month, and Blackout Trail reaching the top 50 in Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi books.
Every so often, Blackout Trail surges in the Australia market. I just wanted to give a shout-out to my Aussie readers. It's pretty neat that people on the other side of the world are enjoying my story. Thanks to all my readers, wherever you are! (Side note - I love Australian TV, esp Sea Patrol.)

In the Army, nearly a quarter of all active-duty enlisted personnel are Black, and Black women make up 36 percent of all enlisted women.
Against this backdrop, it is important to recognize individual stories of Black valor and sacrifice.

As a former library kid and (part-time) librarian, I am thrilled that Blackout Trail is now available to libraries in eBook/Audio. Depending on your local library, you can access it through Hoopla (www.hoopladigital.com/ebook/blacko...) or request it through Libby/Overdrive. #books #booksky
Not often / not lately. "Useless" is usually not a lack of BASIC tech knowledge, but lack of diligence/care/craftsmanship. Their code might "work" (ish), but have subtle bugs / poor usability, be hard to maintain, etc. Someone else has to clean up the mess. (Not unlike vibe-coded slop, really.)

All right, I got mad enough to write a full post about all this:
A "flavor text" intro to a role-playing game chapter. Just a couple paragraphs. More recently, a novella. The biggest reader critique was that it was too short, and I'm like: "I know, right?!" I want to turn everything into a multi-book series. π #SpoonieAuthChat
