my kid is just under two, and my first, but i think if i was anti-vax and he died of measles or something i would legitimately end it all out of grief and despair.

if you pay good players, most front offices think you're a mark, apparently. all this means is that the dodgers are functionally exploiting the same market inefficiency that SABR the first time, just on the opposite side of the coin
obviously this will not happen but this should be, without question, illegal
this is so unbelievably scummy and ridiculous
and then jesus said unto them: the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must
Since July, I've tracked at least 2,300 cases in which federal judges have ruled ICE has illegally detained people without bond or due process.
This is one that stands out:

Another ruling just yesterday in Minnesota: A federal judge calls it "particularly craven" that ICE transfered "a nursing refugee mother" out of state. Ta Eh Doh Lah was admitted as a refugee from Myanmar in 2024, has no criminal history and a 5-month-old. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
Wael Tarabishi, the last person I wrote about for the Star-Telegram, died on Friday.
Wael’s health declined rapidly after his father and primary caretaker, Maher, was detained by ICE last fall.
The Tarabishi family believes that if Maher had not been arrested, Wael would still be alive. I do too.
i think about this piece by gessen very often. www.nybooks.com/online/2016/...
Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti “We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.
Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti.

mr president sir, im a lifelong conservative and im just wondering which deeply held belief of mine today you would like me to dump in the trash no questions asked to defend your dementia-fueled insanity sir? preferably something ive been incredibly vocal about my entire life
Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.
Leader Schumer Statement Announcing Senate Democrats Will Not Advance Appropriations Bill If DHS Funding Is Included New York, N.Y. – Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer released the following statement on the appropriations bill following the shooting in Minnesota: “What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling —and unacceptable in any American city. Democrats sought common sense reforms in the Department of Homeland Security spending bill, but because of Republicans’ refusal to stand up to President Trump, the DHS bill is woefully inadequate to rein in the abuses of ICE. I will vote no.

"Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included"
not seeing that stuff is why i avoid this place, but i can’t help it in these specific moments
it is again, as it always is, worth considering how this would be perceived if we read about this occurring in st. petersburg and we saw translations of kremlin statements, or in any number of other places
this feels almost wrong to say but the hardest part of processing all of this is the insane, shameless, and utterly blatant lying and gaslighting. it just adds something unique
Democrats spanning from Jim McGovern to Seth Moulton have publicly called for abolishing ICE and there are clearly Dem votes for a shutdown so naturally "why aren't Dems saying anything?" remains the easiest way for low-effort clout chasers that don't pay attention to anything to rack up RTs
Wise words from WEB DuBois to gird us today: "It would be shame and cowardice to surrender this glorious land and its opportunities for civilization and humanity to the thugs and lynchers, the mobs and profiteers, the monopolists & gamblers who today choke its soul and steal its resources."
A new video appears to show the moments leading up to a fatal shooting by federal agents in Minneapolis, with the individual appearing to simply record on his phone as agents escalated the situation.

After the Minneapolis shooting, the AP reports an angry crowd gathered and screamed profanities at federal officers, calling them “cowards” and telling them to go home.
One officer responded mockingly as he walked away, telling them: “Boo hoo.”
ICE claims he drew a weapon. It appears to me his weapon was confiscated before the shot was fired. The man in the tan jacket. Look at his right hand. Empty. He goes in at the victim’s lower back. You can see the victim’s shirt lift. Jacket man walks away with weapon. Shot fired. Man dies.
Murder.
Sarah Nelson JANUARY 24, 2026 AT 12:08 PM Federal agents shot armed man in Minneapolis, Homeland Security says Department of Homeland Security officials said the man fatally shot by federal agents this morning in south Minneapolis was armed with a gun and two magazines. The agency has not publicly identified the man or released details about what led up to the shooting, including how agents came into contact with him or what actions preceded the use of force.
The federal government’s official story—which is of course likely a lie—is that DHS killed a guy for simply having a gun.
This is the gun rights lobby’s nightmare scenario, and they likely won’t utter a mumbling word of opposition.
incredibly personal take: it is very annoying that it’s the dodgers doing this and not the yankees
This is the dynamic across most of America: Liberal cities generate revenue, which state governments then transfer to benefit conservative rural areas, whose residents despite city-dwellers and consistently vote to harm them. But politicians endlessly pander to rural voters and demonize cities.
Seizure ... by whom? If we're asserting that the money is safer in Qatar than the US, that suggests that it is being protected because Qatar has something the US lacks — presumably a lack of accountability to American courts and Congress. www.semafor.com/article/01/1...
I think the disconnect between Atlantic elites is that Americans think Donald Trump is a kid getting to drive a monster truck for Make A Wish and Europeans and Canadians think Donald Trump is the president of the United States.
one underrated part of this is how her communication skills are excellent. live interview, but she name-dropped vance twice (will be in every story and video), speaks clearly and authoritatively about what happened (also twice), and twice differentiates herself. A+ political communication
AOC: “I understand that VP Vance believes shooting a young mother of three in the face three times is an acceptable America that he wants to live in, & I do not — That is a fundamental difference between VP Vance & I — I do not believe the American people should be assassinated in the street”
