Unalloyed good news
It seems to me like one thing AI would be terrible at is absolutely everything the Civilian Conservation Corps did.
How not to be an asshole: leave your outdoor speaker at home when out skiing or hiking. Follow me for more life hacks.
Sheehy/Daines can vote against him cuz while they blindly support Pearce, they also realize he'll go through anyway so the GOP just needs to work out who gets "optic permissions" (see: not get Trump/MT voters' ire) to vote no.
So while Sheehy will vote no, he %1000 backs Pearce ideologically.

Flight path of a stratotanker that has been circling above glacier park all day. Looks like a plate of blue spaghetti.
It's been a noisy day in glacier with these tanker aircraft up there all day long
I really liked Oxygen by Nick Lane, but it's probably a bit dated by now
Time for the annual ritual of listening to Long December and getting a bit rueful
Say it with me:
American farmers overproduce low value commodities for an increasingly competitive global market and other countries like Brazil and Argentina are happy to compete in an ecological race to the bottom, replacing rainforest with soybeans and selling them to China.
Iβm a product of big government. Everyone likes to shitpost the government. California taxpayers and the regents of the University of California saved my ass. fortune.com/2025/11/06/s...
Yeah I mean I like machines and it's pretty amazing to see that stuff but boy it's a heavy feeling to think about those same planes doing that same thing in far-flung corners of the world.
They buzzed me on the Missouri a couple days ago. Scared the swans I was watching.
Nearly a quarter-century ago, Dick Cheney personally meddled in a govt report finding that Klamath Basin fish actually need, yβknow, waterβan act that led directly to the catastrophic salmon die-off in 2002 and thus paved dam removalβs way. Now Dickβs dead and the Klamath lives. Makes ya think.
Winter blew in from Canada today

Over 40% of corn grown in Indiana is used to make ethanol that cars burn. One acre of corn yields about 16,500 vehicle-miles per year of ethanol, which sounds high until you realize that one acre of solar yields about 2,700,000 vehicle-miles per year: 16,000% more driving for a given plot of land.
The bourgeoisie blues
Since leaving Missoula, I've made mastering the baguette my primary mission in life, and I've gotten pretty good! They're actually easier than you might think.
Totally, I just think the difference right this minute is that our export market has very suddenly evaporated. I think to make a change like this there would need to be a massive coordinated effort and incentives.
Our ability to live better is again crushed by the status quo.
I mean, 10x increase in net revenue per acre could get the attention of lots of farmers.
Sorry, that's not an area I know much about. There's no question that this scale would require a massive investment in storage and distribution.
Farmers make more money, we decarbonize 20 percent of the grid, restore native ecosystems, and decrease Gulf of Mexico pollution.
Win win win win win win win.
All we need to do is do it. Easy, right?
I think this is great news. This is 7 million acres of land that can be converted to low-intensity agrivoltaics. We could produce a trillion kWh/yr, raise higher-value crops, restore huge swaths of native prairie, and still increase net revenue per acre by an order of magnitude.

Yooooo swing my direction? Those look amazing
As a rural dweller, I really enjoy getting to a city or large event for about 48 hours and then getting back to the peace and quiet. I think country living can accentuate festivals and the like.
I like them quite a bit. Lasagna, beef stroganoff, and chili Mac are my favorites. Even the breakfasts are good!
Skateboarding, as we used to say when we were youths, is not a crime.
This is the correct way to raise kids to be happier, smarter, and cooler than yourself
