My personal daily driver is a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th generation. I paid $200 for it, it has a 1440p matte display, great keyboard, decent touchpad, and I'm running KDE Fedora spin on it with zero regrets whatsoever.

If you have a few bucks sitting around and the ongoing hype surrounding using Linux as a daily driver appeals to you I haven't seen a lot of people mentioning that some business-class laptops were available *brand new* with Linux on them, and as such will/should have flawless hardware support.

The last time Apple introduced a whole new look and feel for iOS/macOS was iOS7 and it was pretty rough on release so I have confidence this will look much, much better in two years. As it is there are just so many instances of questionable padding/alignments and the icon “outline” bothers me.

I reinstalled Windows on a laptop after replacing the drive with an SSD and it was my first time ever using Windows 10 Home, which is a circle of hell all in itself. What an amazingly user-hostile operating system. Holy shit.

The other day I was hovering over the "import" dialog for Davinci Resolve and I noticed my mouse was influencing the Firefox window in the background. How does the windowing server even *do* that, lol. It's like the Z-depth buffer equiv was completely borked.

This thing flies. Got wifi and sound working, installed XFCE and Firefox and some networking utilities for SMB and whatnot. Core2Duo with 4GB RAM and my only real complaint with the usability is the screen is pretty low quality. However, it is blue.

Wtf is my luck with computers. My Macbook Pro on a regular basis will have mouse functionality break entirely. Can't right-click, hover works intermittently, clicking sometimes right-clicks, goes back to normal after a reboot. Meanwhile I installed Arch on a Core2Duo laptop successfully and it flies

How in the fresh hell is "a built in graphical file manager" not a THING with this damn software? And the versions you can add in are all unbelievably buggy and feature incomplete, especially with the distinction between drives and shares.

as much as I am not afraid of the terminal something about my mental state makes file management via terminal commands absolutely impossible to grok. Anyways I'm trying to offload stuff from my unraid server to my Synology (great timing) and having do use a terminal to do it is torture.
