Tuning into the Surrey net tonight, and someone has a particularly Bob Ross-esque way of speaking. Very soothing!

๐จ๐ฆ New to amateur radio. Learning to wield the dits and dashes. Something bright, and clever, and endearing/funny will be added here when I come up with it. She/her. No to gen/ai. Yes to human creativity. (FYI - The Wimdy Fox photo is by Igor Shpilenok.๐)

Me and @aran.pink wrote a song about foxes
I would love it if you would check it out and share it
Nothing bad can happen if you do

This video is awesome. ๐
Iโm currently listening to a bunch of hams talking back and forth about this.
And yes, I know there are also only 2 letter suffix call signs in BC, but it definitely the 3 letter signs that are causing the issues today.
Finally listening in on a nice clear net, and Iโm begging our more experienced hams to say their call signs a tiny bit slower and clearer, especially those last two letters, which folks tend to rush or swallow. Us newbies are trying our best to quietly get to know who you are! ๐
You know, with everything going on in the world right now, quietly listening in to hams just shooting the breeze and being lovely humans is a great way to remember thereโs good folks out there, too.
Damn crackles. Just caught the tail end of a convo between two hams, and I missed one whole call sign, and the last letter of the other call sign, thanks to static. Made whatever the letter was sound like โmonitorโ. ๐ญ
Anyway, hope the new appliances and car waxing go well for you, gents! ๐
A small, square, hand crocheted pouch with a fold over flap, and crocheted strap, held close by a gold shield button with a lion printed on it. All the crocheted parts are in a soft pink yarn.
Proud to say I have successfully adjusted a lovely little crochet pouch tutorial off YT to get it just the way I like for my Tamagotchi Paradise.
Now Iโm wondering if I could make a Baofeng cozyโฆ
Iโll point out there wasnโt any sort of penalty from my parents for us girls wanting to use walkie-talkies when I was younger, it was just a societal thing that walkies were a thing boys used while running around playing their cops/robber style games, so girls werenโt encouraged to try them out.
I canโt transmit yet bcs Iโm still studying for my license, but I find just listening in so amazing - what do you mean Fredโs in Bellingham, and heโs QSOing w/Ben on the other side Canada? The little kid in me that never got to play w/walkie-talkies (bcs they were for boys) is constantly in awe. ๐

Could not be more proud of you, Team Canada.

Youโre coming home with 21 hard-fought Olympic medals. Though what Canadians will remember most is how you wore the Maple Leaf: with pride, with grit, and with determination.
I would also be remiss if I didnโt mention that one of the instructors had made a antenna that literally incorporated a ham tin (sans the ham), and making one of those is now a hobby goal!
First in person class today for our amateur radio license course, and we spent the morning building a ladder line roll-up J pole. Everyone was so enthusiastic, and kind, and I learnt so much bcs I had the most issues w/my project (I had a masterclass in soldering, let me tell you ๐). So much fun!!

Promotional graphic announcing the SpaceX Crew-12 launch on Friday to the International Space Station. Features portrait photos of ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot (top, in blue flight suit with ESA patches and French flags) and NASA astronaut Jack Hathaway (bottom, in blue NASA flight suit with American flag patch, smiling with arms crossed). Right-side text highlights: "Crew 12 Launch Friday โ ESA's Adenot and NASA's Hathaway on ISS mission." It lists the Crew-12 ham radio operators: Sophie Adenot, KJ5LTN (license in June, Astro Pi Mission Zero ambassador); Jack Hathaway, KJ5NIV (license in December, Navy Commander, Eagle Scout). Includes ARISS logo at bottom and NASA image credits (2025 for Adenot, 2021 for Hathaway).
Good luck to Crew-12 on their planned launch tomorrow!
When they get on station, the Columbus module will triple the number of hams on station - with Adenot and Hathaway joining Chris Williams.

A radio made from a ham
Mine wont work
I keep getting a crackle at the most inopportune time, and it sounds like this one call sign includes โPoptartโ instead of โPapaโ, and not gonna lie, I prefer the poptart version. ๐
One of these gents in the tower has such a nice, comforting voice. Kind of perfect for a high stress job.
Stumbled onto a local air traffic tower channel for one of our smaller airports while trying to get used to my handheld, and what a nerdy fun way to practice your NATO phonetic alphabet skills. ๐๐ค (Donโt stress, Iโm only listening. I wouldnโt dare do anything but listen.)
Pssst! Thereโs still time to sign up - it starts Feb 19!
Ack! Happy I-forgot-the-last-two-letters Monday, everyone!

Out of curiosity, has he had the same call sign the whole time?

Well, I was today years old when I learnt AWG on wires actually stood for โAmerican Wire Gaugeโ, and not โAssigned Wire Gaugeโ. Huh.
Congratulations again to the team behind Heated Rivalry. Your success is a powerful reminder of why it matters to invest in Canadian content and stories.
