I continue to loathe it with every fibre of my being.

The feeling's mutual
Urgh, is the nonsense auction all over yet? Can't wait to be able to focus on the county game rather than ghastly franchises.
Top of the Pops (27th February 1986). The Bangles perform Manic Monday.
Stunning and historic result in the Gordon and Denton parliamentary by-election in the UK.
The anti-genocide Green Party led by Zack Polanski has won the seat from Keir Starmer's governing Labour Party.
Nigel Farage's Reform UK and its odious candidate Matt Goodwin beaten.
Swindon 1 Crewe 2. Another immensely frustrating afternoon as STFC gift both goals to the visitors and feel disjointed throughout. Time to nail down a consistent starting XI now that the Saturday-Tuesday run has finished.
Saw it coming a mile off. Can't believe anyone is surprised by this development. The franchise world is rotten to the core.
ECB not only sold English cricketβs integrity easily and cheaply.
They screwed the existing game, including a Blast with record-breaking ticket sales despite no FTA TV or much marketing to do it
Shameful
Zimbabwe are a joy to watch - long may it continue beyond the Super 8s.
Barnet 1 Swindon 2. Yesterday's second half turnaround will hopefully prove crucial come the end of the season, especially with results elsewhere going in our favour.
Decent sporting weekend after such a tough working week. STFC back into the automatic promotion spots, excellent early games in the T20 World Cup and the Winter Olympics always enthralling in a beautifully bonkers way.
Hope one of the associate nations get over the winning line soon.
Give Us A Clue (6th February 1979). Libby Morris struggles with Floodlit Rugby League.
Hereβs this weekβs cartoon for @sport.theguardian.com

Been that way since 1990.
Swindon's amateurish admin finally hitting us where it hurts. One mistake perhaps understandable but two in one game just completely shambolic.
Now this is finally settled, just got to hope they can now properly focus on that long unbeaten run we need in the league.
David Payne once again proving that Englandβs selectors are clueless. Criminally underrated.
Swindon 2 v Salford 3. First live sport of 2026 but Swindon's sloppy week of amateurish admin spread onto the pitch sadly. A poor first half spell cost us dearly against key promotion rivals.
Is this the ECB legacy?
βIn England it has become elitist, with free-to-air TV coverage long gone, the cost of going to a game increasingly prohibitive and the county gameβs importance as a place to learn having been eroded.β

England have now failed to win any of their last eight Test series against Australia or India, with four 2-2 draws at home and 1-3, 0-4 and two 1-4 losses away. This is their worst such sequence, beating two previous cases (1961-66 and 1997-2003) of six winless series.
Time for normal sleep patterns to return after all the Ashes disruption...if Storm Goretti allows!
Approaching 200 entries on the County Cricket survey.
Some interesting patterns emerging

On this day in 1979, the first edition of Give Us A Clue was broadcast.
Shane Warne, a white man with a shock of blond hair, wearing cricket whites, a gold neckchain, and a blob of sun lotion on his nose. His right hand is raised high, probably in a successful appeal for a wicket, and his trousers show that he has been diving in the field.
On 2 January 1992, Shane Warne made his Test debut for Australia, taking 1-150. His sole victim was Ravi Shastri, who scored 206. Warne did not take a wicket in his next Test at Adelaide, but his form soon improved and, once he played in England in 1993, he never looked back. #cricketcounts #engvaus
Wishing the Blue Sky cricket and football communities a very Happy New Year.
Hopefully a positive year ahead for STFC, Gloucestershire and county cricket as a whole.
Looking forward to plenty of sporting travels in 2026.
You don't know what day it is.
You're eating countless meals a day with lots of snacks in between.
You're napping throughout they day.
Either it's the time between Christmas and New Year or you're a cat.
January 2011: was still in my 20s, still living with my parents, hadn't met my partner, pre library refurb.
Crazy how long it's taken for England to win one solitary Test in Australia since then.
Glad I stuck with the cricket tonight. Hope it doesn't take another 15 years to see the next one!
'I'd like to book 16 rooms for a 3-night break in Noosa, please.'
Latham and Conway are actually the first opening batters who both scored centuries in both innings of ANY first-class match.
The closest to a previous instance also took place in New Zealand: Bert Sutcliffe (141 & 135) and Don Taylor (99 & 143) for Auckland v Canterbury at Auckland in January 1949.
Is it the County Championship's fault yet?
During the last commentary of the year a listener asked us what we thought would happen in Oz.
I predicted an Australian series win. Had no reason to believe the hype around England.
I didn't expect it to be over in 10 days though!
Who do they blame now?
