Between Strangers and Amber Waves, I’d say Ethel Cain is pitching a flawless 2/2 for album closers

Ethel Cain really said, y’all were so annoying about American Teenager, you can have even longer, more dense audio soundscapes, no hooks, and barely any melody!

Which are unskippable, appear multiple times through rooms (even ones you’ve already cleared out) and the novelty really ran out by the end of only a 5 hour campaign. Overall, Deadly Silence is an interesting curio, and a contender for the best version of classic RE1, but stick to classic mode.

You have three hunters in a single hallway. Most of the new puzzles are superfluous and add nothing, like needing to spin a record at the right speed to summon Yawn (?) or physically blow out the candles in the eagle gem room. The worst part is these first-person knife touch screen minigames (cont.)

which adds new puzzles and mixes around some of the items. Most importantly, it also jacks up the amount of enemies and ammo by a ton, making for a combat-heavy experience. I was not feeling it. Combat is not classic RE’s high point, and you really feel the clunkiness of the lock-on when (cont.)

Finished a Jill and a Chris playthrough of RE Deadly Silence, a port of the original RE to the DS that came out in 2006. For Jill, I played the classic mode, which was perfect, RE 96 without the fart music and with a map visible at all times. For Chris, I played the new ‘Rebirth’ difficulty (cont.)

Deadly Silence is the best version of RE1 Classic because it’s the only version where you can touch Chris’ butt

I learned recently that you just not read Stanley’s notes in the hospital in Silent Hill 3, and if you don’t read the first one, the rest just don’t show up - I really feel bad for people who miss out on stuff like this by not reading notes, especially horror games.
