Someone got eaten by a shark in Hawaii, which of course is very sad, but the local news service said the death was 'at the hands of a shark' and now I will be unable to sleep because I will be imagining shark hands.
I love how Ryvchin frames it as "look what Randa did to the Adelaide Writers Week", instead of "look at the reaction when the AWW uninvited her".
There was something in the water at that conference (AHA Adelaide 2000) because there was more than one baby produced as a result, and many of the relationships formed are still going! But I think conferences are like that :)
I would also point out that my first AHA resulted in some lifelong relationships, including with a child who is now nearly 25, so be prepared for anything! And see you in July.
No references needed.
My advice is to sketch your idea as loosely as possible so you don't bind too tightly to the words! And also remember big conferences like the AHA depend on people like yourself. (The old hands rarely match their pitched abstract to their papers and some write on the plane!)
Didn't take the Liberals long to find the anti-immigrant stick in the drawer and wave it about.
I wonder if Jacinta's media campaign to get back on the shadow bench pays off. Aren't you supposed to court your colleagues?
Watching Insiders (late) and saw the lovely tribute to our beloved @kudelka.bsky.social. They said he was 'loved across the political spectrum', so I am quite sure there is a little cloud protesting 'not the whole spectrum' floating above South Hobart right now.
I miss him too. I remember seeing one of his cartoons in The Mercury just after I'd done my HSC and I'm a few years older than he ever got to be, bugger it.
Bloody horrible weather today
Hilarious she cites the punk movement after hassling Albo about a Joy Division T-shirt
Crying reading the tribute to @kudelka.bsky.social by @firstdogonthemoon.bsky.social. When Twitter was good I got so much joy from their banter and egging them on. So sorry for your loss, dear FirstDog. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

As both Hume and Taylor managed to drag Duttonβs vote even lower at the last election, one must wonder.
Tasmanian Senator Claire Chandler says Australians are sick of the Liberal Party talking about itself, in a video in which she talks about herself #libspill
Comedy gold: Jane Hume says Angus Taylor has a great intellect and is a deep thinker.
Trying it without adjectives: Taylor has a deep intellect and is a thinker.
Still a good joke!
Our first spill since we lost @kudelka.bsky.social
A minute's silence, please.
Vale Jon Kudelka; not many better at summing up the issues of the day with great brevity and wit, but also with such vivid, arresting images. A true master of his art.
Very sad to share the news of this legend of Australian political cartooning, and art. Dear Jon Kudelka has died, and we will be the poorer and more dull for his passing.
Sending love and condolences to his family.
What a legacy of scorching wit and joyful capturing of life he leaves.
People are rightly posting Jon's work but it is the memory of his pics at his son's football games that is bringing me the tears at the moment.
I hope his family are able to remember him well and know how much he was loved.
Should Australia welcome Isaac Herzog?

@kudelka.bsky.social I've been missing you for a while already, but now I'm really going to miss you. I hope you make a rat's tail from a Kudelka tea-towel and give God a good flick.
I'm devastated. Who will accuse me of being a rusted-on now?
Just caught a smidge of the press conference at Bondi and heard Herzog say demonstrations delegitimise the existence of Israel.
Mate, they delegitimise GENOCIDE.
Hello old comrade, this is one of those times the broad church of the ALP feels like manacles. Iβm not in it any more, and it was crap like this and ppl like Malinauskas and Minns cosying up to the Israel lobby, wot finished me. Hello to Tassie from the Blueys! Protesting at Susanβs shopfront today.
Why would anyone go there if one did not have to?
Thinking of him all the time. I miss the old coot.
Thatβs really unfair heβs lost his licence, given the dog was behind the wheel! Hope the dog lost HIS licence
A crystal clear article by Peter Greste. He explains his decision to resign from Adelaide Writers' Week as a defence of the 'grey zone', where things are complex and we can talk about hard things together and combat extremism. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
The Herald has labelled this cartoon divisive but I feel it is absolutely accurate.
The newspaper does defend their right to publish it, so there is that.
I stand with @cathywilcox!
