One interesting detail from the building's history involves a cross-state lines legal/preservationist fight over stolen terra cotta lion heads from the building that wound up in an award-winning condo redevelopment in Chicago.
Some of those lion heads will be restored to the top of the building.
Years in the making, redevelopment work of historic Lee Plaza building formally commenced today. In 18 months the building is slated to become affordable apartments for seniors.
