IPads in kindergarten, YouTube videos at snack time: Parents are pushing back on screen time in the early grades Screen time in school ballooned during the pandemic and is now embedded throughout the instructional day.

This deep dive by @jackiemader.bsky.social on school screen time is a must-read. As editor (and a parent who introduced my kid to screens much earlier than I would have wanted -- pandemic ๐Ÿ˜ข) these parents' stories really struck me. hechingerreport.org/ipads-in-kin...

Reaction videos are my new thing. Watching people experience the end of E5 is like a drug to me ๐Ÿšฌ

I had the misfortune of spending some time in the Instagram comments of something Brendan Brady posted about SNL and it was CRAZY TOWN in there. So I totally get where this is coming from but also want him to have a tiny bit less caffeine and nicotine ๐Ÿ˜ญ

You just gave me a trauma flashback to the spreadsheet I had to create when I was investigating daycares. ๐Ÿ˜ญ I tended to see this secrecy more in smaller or home-based daycares than in the Bright Horizons/Kindercare type facilities. @jackiemader.bsky.social maybe there's a column in this!

I started watching Shoresy after Heated Rivalry, was a big fan of Ted Lasso back in the day, and what perfect timing to find your essay. I agree with you entirely. It's funny and full of heart and I think Jared Keeso wrote every single episode? It's so good.

I read somewhere (??) that CS and HW signed a three-season contract at the start of all this. Plus in interviews, Jacob seems to have a genuine affection for the books. He wants to bring some of these characters to life, like Troy Barrett. But they all have a lot of irons in the fire, for sure!

Last thing: it's so minor in the broad scheme of <everything> but he was telling her she needed to do the dishes "right after" she cooked? Obviously not as big a deal as bringing in a whole new partner but that came across as really jerky to me.

I must say that I am .... curious .... to know when he would have brought up his/their new partner, since she had to learn about this person's existence through someone else.

I just read the original story b/c so many folks in my orbit are talking about this and, whew. Everyone so often I come across something that makes me think "oh wow, I am actually old-fashioned maybe?" and this piece was one of them. I WANT to believe that everything here is fine fine fine, but ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Zero inside knowledge here, but I feel fairly sure we'll see three seasons of HR, however, Alexander may come before S3. Unrivaled still has to be completed and everyone wants to do other things, so I'm guessing the gap between S2 and S3 will be longer than the gap between S1 and S2. We'll see!

It's been so long...was there enough worldbuilding in Firefly to sustain other characters/points of view? Maybe we'll be finding out soon.

Yes, let things stay in their time. I liked Whedon's Dollhouse too, and I one hundred percent do NOT want that one to come back either. It's OK for something to be a pleasant memory.

I think not, actually? I loved it when it was new, but I'm not sure how well it has aged. I know even at the time the Chinese/Anglo cultural blend was considered a little problematic.

I just wonder what the communications strategy is here (if there is one?) I truly appreciate, seriously, that you can translate these memes for those of us who aren't in that world...but there's a LOT of us who aren't in that world. These memes are legible to such a small slice of the population.

Conservative-leaning civic centers now teach courses at public colleges A growing number of Republican legislators are using their power in the name of intellectual diversity to get right-leaning professors in front of all students, at conservative-leaning civic centers.

Conservative lawmakers are spending millions in taxpayer dollars to incentivize college students to attend lectures and take courses offered by right-leaning historians and political scientists. We explored this trend in Ohio:

Chris, I am curious: does this mean anything for the law firms that "settled" (not sure if this is the right term) and promised to provide pro bono support to the administration? Or does this have no impact on them?

I don't know if I will ever get used to how different this guy can look from picture to picture. But, I hate when they mash his hair down like this. For me it is better just doing its normal thing or in some very avant-garde style like the SNL promo cards or VMAN.

He's canonically quite fuckable so idk what that is all about, lol. I think HW's performance is amazing. He is doing as much work as CS and Shane evolves from the beginning of the show to the end as much as Ilya does. I find new things to love (or remind myself that I love) on every viewing.

Tweet from Charlize Theron: I truly cannot comprehend the level of hatred this administration is capable of. Trans people - mostly black trans women - continued to be murdered at an alarming rate, and Trump is kicking them to the curb. If this isn't a wake up call to vote this man out in Nov, idk what is

This is the second thing I've seen recently that claims Charlize Theron is a Trump supporter and I don't know where that's coming from? Not that I'm some Charlize superfan, it's just weird. Maybe people are assuming b/c she's South African.

I hope he does, because *I* find eating and trying new things to be a really pleasurable part of life. But, I also try to remind myself that if he never eats much more beyond what he likes now, he will still be healthy and maintain a balance of nutrients. I'm trying to "drop the rope."

I do ask my son to try everything, and to his credit, he does. (Except for fish and seafood, that's still a hard no for now) But he still just prefers at this time to eat the same handful of foods. I've decided not to see that as a moral failing. It's just the way he is.

Y'know, I'm just not sure. I remember when my now 13-year-old used to eat sardines from the can (better than tuna!) as a toddler and then his tastes just seemed to contract. Maybe it's that we accommodate kids more now than we did, idk. The entire food landscape has changed a lot over the years.

Aside from Charlie Kirk, Booker T. Washington is also an interesting choice of person to honor, here. Not unworthy, of course. Just...interesting.
