"my mom, who actually used ChatGPT to translate random things a few times, surely seems to know more about AI translation capabilities than Bender does."

he sure does seem to believe that women should perform for him or we're "smug"
Do women with expertise threaten him, I wonder?

Yes to all of this, but also: writing is so much more than a text sample. Great writers (whatever it means) are not great because they can write a good sample, but because they make prose, plot, themes and other elements of writing work together to form a text larger than the sum of its parts.

Anti-war feminists could be focusing on raising awareness about russian war crimes against Ukrainian women instead of posting performative nonsense that undermines support for Ukraine’s defence. Russia holds civilian women hostage and rarely agrees to exchange them: www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/202...

It's vaguely fascinating and jarring that Claude gets sold as the responsible, narrow, work-focused non-sycophantic chatbot while at the same time Anthropic also seems to have convinced a stunningly massive number of formerly normal people that Claude is a living thing trapped inside the computer

Right now people are using this trick to change what AI tells you about topics as serious as medial questions and financial advice. The problem is ENORMOUS

Experts like like @lilyray.nyc say this is a problem the tech industry has know about forever, they just didn’t work on it til it was a crisis

I just did the dumbest thing of my entire career to prove a much more serious point.

I tricked ChatGPT and Google, and made them tell other users I’m a competitive hot-dog-eating world champion

People are using this trick on a massive scale to make AI tell you lies. I’ll explain how I did it

AI BOOSTER BINGO

The squares read:

I might get attacked for saying this

Imagine what it'll do in 5 years

Al critics are just afraid

Al is better than you

Everyone is doing it

"Levels the playing Field"

Your time will be spent on work that MATTERS

Your time will be spent correcting the Al's errors

MORE VOLUME!!

Shit outputs? Switch to [alternate LLM]

Yes jobs will be cut...

Humans aren't perfect either

It's FUN!!!

No practical advice

"Sorry bluesky"

Solution to chronic underfunding

What if it could cure cancer???

I made something that appears passable

No need for pesky underlings

Is it accurate? No. But...

Framing human work as "bespoke, hand-crafted"

Get with it or get left behind!!!

Al critics are luddites

This was actually written by AI

Amazing work, everyone the OpenAI boycott is working! And thank you to our international supporters who are joining us. Sam Altman is in panic mode he went on X tonight telling users to ask him anything about OpenAI’s Pentagon deal as the boycott of ChatGPT grows.

We know a lot of people are choosing to boycott AI overall, and we support that. AI is terrible on the environment! At the same time, we understand many people still use AI tools. If you’re going use AI please delete the ChatGPT app, and switch to Claude by Anthropic instead.

an account with over 890,000 followers shilling for Anthropic is a HUGE red flag.

There’s something morally grotesque about reporting the words of a genocidal war criminal as if they were uttered from a genuine place of authority rather than from atop a pile of Ukrainian corpses.

This is how the "NATO expansion provoked Ru" crowd tries to wiggle out of evidence falsifying their theory again! After Finland/Sweden's NATO accession provoked no reaction from Ru, they said it didn't count because Ru's afraid specifically of Ukr in NATO. Now that taking Ukr NATO membership off...

Very few narratives piss me off as much as the whole "let's give marginalised people LLM assistants for inclusion".

Inclusion does not mean giving marginalised people shittier versions of a thing: Sure you can give kids from poorer backgrounds an LLM to "learn" but what you are saying is that poor people are not worth having trustworthy sources of information. When you say that older or lonely people can talk to chatbots to feel less alone you are saying that some people are not worth a social life.

This is a deeply inhumane perspective that goes actively against the ideas and ideals of inclusion.

If you're not a native English speaker or have a non-Anglo name, publishers and journals will try to make you pay extra for editing services (now also with AI tools you didn't ask for), and editors will be biased against you. Don't fall for this. It's not you, it's the bigotry.

At the AI conference, Altman also downplayed concerns about the water datacenters require.

β€œWater is totally fake. It used to be true. We used to do evaporative cooling in datacenters, but now … we don’t do that,” Altman said. β€œYou see things on the internet, [like]: β€˜Don’t use ChatGPT. It’s 17 gallons of water for each query or whatever.’ This is completely untrue – totally insane.”

CNBC reported that β€œsome newer data centers no longer rely on water at all”.

The director of the Southern New Hampshire University office of sustainability, Mike Weinstein, told the Guardian he was skeptical of the argument from Altman and other AI advocates that the power such infrastructure demands is justified because the technology will help alleviate global problems.
