People who may want to have children in the future should bear this in mind: tear gas can have serious consequences for female reproductive health. The data on this isn't great but I would at least recommend ensuring you have a quality respirator or mask on at all times.
That was cool, keep up the good work. And thanks for helping me to feel less alone in all this.
Andor update, as in, since the show finished what impacts or have you noticed some of its influence in other shows or things or anything like that?
Staggering atrocities in Sudan.
Following the mass slaughter of nearly 500 men, women, and children at a maternity hospital, UN officials say: "The situation is simply horrifying... El Fasher, already the scene of catastrophic levels of human suffering, has descended into an even darker hell."
A lot of foods got shitty because they reduced the number of " real" food and bumped up the amount of stabilizers and fillers. You can cut the milk fat in ice cream if you throw in some gums and that saves you money for example.
in Germany a lot of this was a reaction to the war years and the failed promises of German imperialism, but you see similar dynamics all over. Fascism's greatest supporters are mediocre people born in comfort who need someone to blame for the fact that they don't have more.
Happy birthday and you’ve survived the rock and roll age by 10 years!
Finally… I’ve been waiting for someone to cover this story. So sad. Climate[dot]gov has always been one of my favorite go-to resources to share.
This is a fantastic, long and strongly-evidenced rebuttal of the "no energy transition" meme popularised wrongly by Jean-Baptiste Fressoz
I am probably one notch less optimistic on renewables than Nafeez but entirely agree w/ the overall thesis: fuel elimination exists, and it can exist everywhere

Four global maps showing near-surface air temperature anomalies for the month of June in 1985-1994, 1995-2004, 2005-2014, and 2015-2024. Most all areas are observing long-term warming, which is largest over the Arctic region and Asia. Anomalies are calculated relative to 1951-1980 from ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis.
It's already June! Here's a look at how temperatures have changed globally over the last four decades during this month... 🧪

I keep saying this... both operationally and in research, the situation is still much worse than most people seem to realize or want to accept.
“Eugenics isn’t just about eradicating the lesser people like myself, like people with disabilities, it’s about attaching disability to marginalized communities in order to slate them for eradication.”
Fantastic crash course in eugenics, ableism & anti-blackness from @imanibarbarin.bsky.social
Mild Spoiler: it's a testament to the quality of writing in Andor that one of the best and easily the most relatable scene in all of Star Wars is a fascist collapsing onto his bed in a panic attack because his mom won't stop being mean to him
Can scientists trace climate losses back to the emissions from individual fossil fuel companies?
Yes, we can.
The inimitable @ccallahan45.bsky.social and I provide an 'end-to-end' attribution framework that can be applied in many climate accountability contexts:

Graph showing daily global mean sea surface temperatures for 2025. This is also compared to the daily data from the 1981-2010 average and 1991-2020 average. Annotations are also shown to the current year with the other years from 1940 to 2024. There is a seasonal cycle. There is a long-term warming trend. 2023 and 2024 are also indicated, which were the warmest years on record. Data is from ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis and updated through 24 April 2025.
To complement my daily and monthly air temperature graphics, I’ve added a new visualization of daily global mean sea surface temperature (SST) to my climate indicators page. It updates in near-real time.

alright folks, here's my best stab at a roadmap for what to expect out of the next six months to a year of this administration
That tracks. Still, I hope the next one takes it further. If the first thing the new pope says is ‘protect the earth or you’re going straight to hell’ maybe I’d contemplate believing in miracles.

Conservatives and right-wingers do not genuinely or sincerely want more energy security when they say the words "energy security".
They use it as a rhetorical proxy for "more fossil fuels". So offering them a right-wingified energy security justification for renewables does not compute, for them.

Accurate description!
Bit of an early Santana feel to this one
I decided to calculate what the minimum wage would be if the FWC did what ACCI wanted each year. And well... eeeeek.

1. Stop assuming people announce all their activism on social media.
2. Stop demanding people announce all their activism on social media.
3. Stop deriding people for not announcing all their activism on social media.
4. Dunking on people on social media isn't activism and isn't praxis.
