An article βMore than one million foreign nationals are receiving benefitsβ (March 17, 2025) referred to the number of βforeign nationalsβ receiving benefits, and gave the rate of benefit claims for various nationalities. In fact, the particular DWP data on which the article was based recorded the nationality of claimants when registering for a National Insurance number, rather than the nationality at the time they were claiming benefits, so that some claimants might have since acquired UK citizenship, and would not be foreign nationals at the time they were claiming benefits. This correction has been published following an upheld ruling by the Independent Press Standards Organisation. Advertisement
Fully *one year later*, the Telegraph has been forced (by @ipso.co.uk) to admit that it was lying about foreign nationals claiming benefits.

Happening tomorrow @praxisprojects.bsky.social and the NRPF Coalition is bringing together organisations for a Mass Lobby event in London to tell MPs loud and clear that we will not sit back quietly while they push through harmful policies against migrants. π

Can anyone give me ideas for easy batch cooking recipes that can be cooked straight from frozen? My mum and dad will not be able to manage the concept of defrosting something overnight.

Dug out Spacemen3 and Spiritualized from the shelf. Forgot how good they could be.
This takes a while to kick off but it does.

Meanwhile, Spain's massive investment in renewables is paying dividends now: with prices for Spanish industry and consumers low and stable compared with other European economies.

Birmingham's Midland Hotel hosted the Conservative MP Enoch Powell's Rivers of Blood speech in 1968 but, earlier than this, Labour's Oswald Mosley broke the Chamberlains' grip on power in 1929 before creating his new fascist party. By 1931, Birmingham people had violently driven him out of the city.

I think it's really beautiful that they were the biggest band on the planet just 3-4 years after this was released.

Dinosaur Jr, Dinosaur. Pretty good debut. Big guitar album. J Mascis brings a lot of shredding innovation in a lot of different voices. #5debutalbums8589

That what a stupid time to be alive meme. Because isnβt it.
As it's Anthony Burgess's birthday today, here he is on Parkinson in March 1982, alongside Donald Sinden and Peter Cook.
A decade after the referendum, these words from Warinder Juss MP and Helen Hayes MP ring truer than ever. It's time we stop dwelling on things that we cannot change in the past, and instead focus on how we can repair our relationship with Europe to ensure that we are part of a European future.

When someone illegally takes your money, thatβs called stealing.
Donald Trump stole your money with his illegal tariffs β and you paid higher prices on everything from housing to groceries.
Itβs time for Trump to pay up and give back your money.
I donβt have kids, but I think often about how urban parenting offers so many opportunities to teach spatial awareness and what it means to share a world with, and make room for, others. This is a recurring thought because I encounter β daily β so many ppl who clearly never learned these lessons :)
Itβs actually not that much many for 22 councils to spend on a valuable activity either!
