Now online! Citrate clearance is a major function of aconitase 2 in the canonical TCA cycle
I agree with this π― -- amazing to see how this project came together from two different angles and took off once Julia and Abby really teamed up. Collaboration at its best!
Congrats (again) to Julia and Abby for their collaborative effort asking when and why cells use the TCA cycle. TLDR; it's not just about ATP or making nutrients-- the TCA cycle is also important to remove nutrients!
HUGE congratulations to our very own Julia Brunner for her paper describing cell-state dependent engagement of the malate-aspartate shuttle, out today!! Many thanks to all lab members, funders, and colleagues who supported the work, and stay tuned for more from Julia very soon!
We are hiring a postdoc! The group has a funded opening to join our amazing team on the NCI's Frederick, MD campus.
This is an opportunity to train in cutting-edge chemical & RNA biology methods with a supportive, tight-knit group.

Menstruation is understudied due to societal taboos + a biological challenge: mice (a key system for research + drug discovery) donβt menstruate.
@cagricevrim.bsky.social made menstruating mice + used them to discover early events in menstruation.
He is on the job market!
Just out in @science.org: Together with the lab of @wilhelmpalm.bsky.social, we used sequential in-vitro/in-vivo CRISPR screens to decipher metabolic adaptations in tumors. We find that acidosis is a dominant factor that shapes energy metabolism and stress resilience. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
