BL Stowe 553, fo. 120v: A cat with inky paws appears to have walked on an open codex (bottom, left folio) leaving four distinct prints, which partially obscure the writing underneath (Adam Murimuth's expenses for a diplomatic trip in 1323). If, as perhaps likely, it happened during Exchequer audit, this was the work of a predecessor of Gladstone, current Treasury mouser.
Another case of an inky-pawed cat walking across an open codex? Remember the Croatian example, noticed by Emir Filipovic? This one is 100+ yrs older: I suspect the incident occurred after Roger Waltham, former Keeper of the Wardrobe, delivered his account to the Exchequer for audit in May 1330.
