Screenshot of a news brief from the 1440 e-newsletter reads: Separately, Scouting Americaβformerly Boy Scouts of Americaβagreed to end diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to maintain support from the Department of Defense. A military service badge will replace one focused on DEI and ethical leadership. Kids must also use their sex assigned at birth to apply to programs. The sentence about the new military service badge is highlighted in yellow.
Fuck ethics and inclusion; go die for the oligarchs, kid.
So, one of my coworkers told me sheβd never seen any of Jack Nicholsonβs films and had no idea what he looked like, and now I need to check myself into an old folks home.
And kick her to the curb in November.

A set of black double doors with closed blinds in the windows is splattered with bright red paint.
The front door of US Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perezβs office in Vancouver, WA, this morning. She (a Democrat) voted to approve the DHS funding package last week. Buildings can be repainted but the blood on her hands will never go away.
A still image of David Lynch from a video recorded toward the end of his life with captions reading: What a great time to be alive if you love the theatre if the absurd. David is wearing a black button-down, long-sleeved shirt and dark sunglasses and is sitting at a desk with a large apartment intercom-style telephone on the wall and a black coffee cup in front of him.
Indeed. #thegospelofdavidlynch
A cat with short, black fur sits on the back of an upholstered armchair while looking at the camera.
A cat with short, black fur is cuddled up next to another cat with short black and white fur on a leopard printed blanket. Their front paws are entwined.

A large, silver pot full of black-eyed peas, broth, tasso, chunks of onion, and a few bay leaves simmers on a flat electric stovetop. Steam rises from the pot.
Brewing up a cauldron of Hoppin John to ring in the New Year (along with braised cabbage and corned beef). Are there any particular foods you eat for good luck on January 1?
I know several men who were sexually abused by adult men when they were children. Men are the problem but they are also victims.
A clump of a dozen or more small grey mushroom grow from a patch of green moss on an old tree. Crispy brown big leaf maple leaves and western red cedar fronds are in the foreground.
An ivory mushroom with black gills and a pearlescent, slightly warped cap is surrounded by brown and golden maple leaves and western red cedar fronds.
A cluster of six mottled brown and white mushrooms of varying heights surrounded by small twigs, grey pebbles, red ornamental maple leaves and golden Western red cedar fronds.
A folksy woodcut image of a bearded garden gnome wearing a pointed hat and a carrying a single large mushroom in his arms stands above text in an βOld Englishβ-style type that says, βI must remain whimsical to survive the horrors.β
In my backyard.

A metal sign attached to a wooden telephone pole displays a black and white image of Bill Nye the Science Guy with the words βThe End Isβ above it.
A Monday night well spent. #PDX #LeneLovich #BillNyetheScienceGuy
This voice. In my head. Forever. Happy birthday, Joe.
A short-haired black and white cat lounges on an antique bed with a black wrought iron frame, red and black pillows and a black microfiber blanket. The walls are blue and a series of eight framed art prints in a triangle shape are hung on the wall behind the bed.

A series of still images from the 1982 movie βBlade Runnerβ show the famous exchange between Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) and Tick Deckhard (Harrison Ford) just before Roy dies. The words βTime to dieβ are over one of the images of Roy in bright yellow.
Me after I read the EPA's announcement about their plans to βunleash American energyβ via en masse environmental deregulation and cancellation of existing policies related to climate change.

We had a gully washer of a rain storm for Summer Solstice this year. It made me so happy. β€οΈ I wish I could share with you how amazing our backyard smells right now. One of my favorite smells on this earth is a forest in the rain after a dry spell.
A black and white photo taken in 1948 shows a young handsome man in his 20s with short , wavy dark hair and wearing light-colored slacks and a short-sleeves button-down shirt standing in front of a flowering bush or small tree of some sort and a wooden fence. He holds a one-year-old baby boy up on his left shoulder with one hand on the babyβs chest and the other on his leg. The baby wears a onesy romper and white baby shoes and socks. Heβs laughing with his mouth open.

Yep! SW Washington. Iβve been βleaving the leavesβ since we moved in three years ago. It makes my neighbors nervous because of the wildfire risk (we live in a protected forest easement along a greenway that caught fire two summers ago). But Iβm trying to restore the soil, which is like concrete.
I find it hilarious that Trump is calling for unity. Puuuuhleeeze.
Close up of the small lime-green photo-blooms of a Goatsbeard plant with a blurred background.
Two white giant allium flower heads are in the foreground, one with a bumblebee on it, a 10+-foot tall purple Rhododendron in full bloom is in the middle ground, and the front porch of a pale yellow two-story house with light grey and white trim is in the background.
A sword fern, a clump of Pacific waterleaf plants, and two Fringecup plants with multiple flower spikes sit at the base of a very old gnarled tree trunk that has patches of moss on it. Light brown leaf litter covers the ground.
Iβm kind of obsessed with my garden.
1. My sole surviving Goatsbeard is fixing to bloom this year!
2. My huge Rhododendron is always the last to bloom in my neighborhood. The giant allium smell great.
3. Fringecup, Pacific waterleaf, and a sword fern at the base of a Big Leaf Maple tree.
Made a new friend in the garden today. I was over the moon. Iβve been told itβs a Northern red-legged frog. #pnwgardening #nativehabitat

A black and white photo of singer/songwriter Woody Guthrie holding an acoustic guitar and singing on a crowded New York City subway car in 1943.
Fun Fact: In 1954, Woody Guthrie and his wife, Anneke van Kirk, lived in an apartment building owned by Donaldβs father, Fred Trump. Woody wrote a song called βOld Man Trump.β It starts:
I suppose
Old Man Trump knows
Just how much
Racial hate
He stirred up
In that bloodpot of human hearts
A wooden sign painted with the pink, blue and white stripes of the transgender pride flag with a black silhouette of an assault rifle over the top of it hangs on a wood utility pole in a commercial area in a medium-large city in SW Washington.
These signs have started appearing on utility poles in my city recently. There is a lot of discussion locally about what they might mean. I think it is a βWe will not go quietly into that good nightβ-type pro-trans call to arms, and I dig it.
What do you think? π³οΈββ§οΈ

A small, brand new trillium plant with three bright green leaves but no flower grows up through a carpet of big leaf maple leaves and Western red cedar fronds in front of a weathered, natural wood fence.
This unexpected trillium magically appearing in an isolated spot in my yard that I didnβt plant just made my whole fucking day.
