My hairdresser keeps giving me stressed orchids and I am doing my best over here, but the only one in bloom I’ve been nurturing after repotting is growing two keikis, so I’m stressed
New flower spike on my orchid! And what looks like maybe a keiki?
A union sibling shared this (unflattering!) photo of me from a lunchtime picket in Feb 2023.
Reminder that public/indigent defense workers in NYC were promised pay parity with ADAs & corp counsel by this spring & Mayor Adam’s just went, “nah”

i would never encourage anyone to engage in time theft by checking their social medias of course, but if they happened to work for a company that is suing their union for voicing support of Palestine, i think it's ok to do it on occasion you know?
It's the last publishing day of 2023 for our online magazine and we can't think of a better way to leave you than with this breathtaking new comic by Sam Wallman on why Palestine is union business.
Sam wishes to thank Michael Hiscox for his contribution.
Very proud that my union voted to stand with Palestine.

"The union representing Legal Aid lawyers approved a controversial anti-Israel resolution Tuesday that calls for an economic boycott of the 'apartheid' Jewish State and immediate cease-fire in Gaza ... The statement opposes all existing and future US military aid to Israel."
Good on the union.
The massive exodus of public defenders & Legal Aid attorneys in NYC is partly about inadequate pay & high caseloads, but the ongoing saga of this downtown Brooklyn office building beset by toxic mold & various small mammals has played a major role too.
First post on here is going to be shaming that embarrassing statement by Legal Aid NYC. If you as a pd office cannot see the connections between our clients and what is happening to the Palestinian people both in the US and in Occupied Palestine, I have no hope for you.
Unbelievable that I have any friends when I insist on writing stupid parody songs all the time that no one asked for

“Everyone, please get on the UAW’s level.
Beep beep motherf***ers.”
Thank you to Workers’ World for this important press our union (UAW 2325) needs over what I can only describe as some Bush v. Gore nonsense on a micro level.
It won’t work.
B/c we’re responding like union organizers—not the Democratic Party did in 2000.
Solidarity 💪

"HuffPost obtained a partial recording of the call, which was previously reported by journalist Talia Jane and The Intercept. In it, Carter referred to the union resolution as 'selfish and privileged' and vented at one point: 'Nobody gives a shit about the nine wars that are happening in Africa.'"
New: The union representing New York's public defenders was voting on a pro-Palestine resolution. Then came the pressure from donors, management, and some fellow lawyers.

If there is a better way to win than the opposing party losing their shit and getting physically removed from the courtroom while the judge announces he's granting your motion and dismissing the action, I do not want to know about it.
my latest column for Teen Vogue is all about general strikes—and explains why UAW prez Shawn Fain’s plan for May 2028 is such a big deal.
with careful planning, we really can transform a pipe dream into an achievable, world-shaking reality—but we gotta start NOW www.teenvogue.com/story/uaw-ge...
But if the goal was to try to destroy a union composed of NYC public and indigent defense attorneys, social workers, paralegals, investigators, and support staff … Well, it is backfiring big time.
In the words of Jason Mendoza from the Good Place—

By forwarding union-only emails on a listserv that’s off management’s emails to management—& intentionally doxxing one’s union siblings—the only conclusion I can draw is that the point is simply to sow chaos, division, & fear. It’s looks like stochastic terrorism aimed at our union’s democracy.

So the plaintiffs & their lawyer are out there ensuring that the very resolution they never wanted anyone to read gets a wider and wider audience the longer this Bush v. Gore, “stop the steal” nonsense continues.
I don’t understand the goal. There doesn’t appear to be a legal one.

There are a lot of things that are just perplexing to me about this ridiculous lawsuit and the actions by the judge.
But the plaintiffs & their lawyer attached the resolution as an exhibit to their public court filing—they published the very speech they were trying to chill.

As a public defender (not a Bronx defender though), I would like to invite Dersh to, in the immortal words of @kenwhite.bsky.social , snort my taint.
Extremely uninterested in a lecture from fuckin’ Dersh on the morality of public defenders or our union’s concerted activity and freedom of speech and association.
You defended Trump. Take several seats.
What’s up bruh you still a paah-RYE-ah when youhra down the VINN-yahd?

Yikes on bikes.
I can respect that 🙃
Ooh, fun!
Is this the one you mean?
I’m trying to get more invested into astrology—
Gonna be honest, it’s mostly for the jokes and union stuff—
Got a couple good suggestions but looking for Podcasts/YouTube channels that are fun and explain charts?
I’m a Libra Sun Aries Moon Cancer Rising—which is apparently wild
Ha! I didn’t know that.
I also don’t know if that makes it worse 😂
Yeah every European who tells me they have more free speech than I do is gonna see about that French ban on pro-Palestinian protest for a while.
This is the most passive-aggressive auto-generated HR email I’ve ever received.
The “thanks” at the end really puts it over the top. 10/10. Zero notes
