Every ND person is different and our needs vary hugely. This can be a big barrier to accessing healthcare, and self-advocacy can be especially hard when you're ill or in a stressful situation. Accurately conveying your needs can make a big difference.

Nordahl: With proper support, there is no reason why autistic people with high support needs cannot participate in research. Not every attempt will be successful, but researchers should learn how to accommodate high-support autistic subjects so they can at least try to be included. #INSAR2025

stimmyabby: Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority” and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person” and they think they’re being fair but they aren’t, and it’s not okay.
