YouTube Lays Claim to Another Crown: The Worldβs Largest Media Company
The influential financial research firm MoffettNathanson suggests that the Google-owned video platform passed Disney's media business in 2025.
"Mainstream media" is increasingly a misnomer when applied to outlets that publish content created by people they employ.
That's now a niche in a media market dominated by online megaplatforms that aggregate and monetize content provided for free by others. www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/dig...

Yesterday was my last day at Willamette Week. I accomplished a lot to be proud of* but I'm crushed. WW was my dream job and I lived it. Losing this beyond my control or fault is hard. Taking the weekend to breathe and grieve. I will miss the team a lot. (Birthday Tuesday, job loss Thursday is rough)

You can buy tickets for this Portland music festival now, priced between $125 and $500.
But just two months out, Soundscape Northwest only has a few venues on board, and it's missing required permits. Vendors and venues say they haven't been paid.

βA 9-gigawatt problemβ: Northwestβs soaring energy demand, supply constraints, could spark new power crisis
Data centers are straining electricity supplies even as Oregon tries to switch to renewable power. Thatβs put the gridβs reliability in doubt.
Oregon had just begun to reap the benefits of leaps in energy efficiency and imagine a future where little or none of its electricity came from fossil fuels.
Then came data centers, and extreme weather.
Now the state faces a new energy crisis. @rogoway.bsky.social reports in the first of a series:
