I hope I am wrong, but it is unfortunate that an artist made a great attempt at asserting this idea on the biggest stage of the US and it might be going over most people's heads.
But we really should. Because it is important for the US and its people to start referring to this hemisphere as peers and not others/enemies for peace and human rights in the western hemisphere.
The next best thing we can do is more regularly refer to people of the Americas in English as one group. With what other term? I have no idea.
I know there are small efforts to rename US citizene to things like USAsian/USian. It is a righteous effort but I just don't think we can ever undo this US identity as "American" in English. It is too cemented.
When he said we are all Americans at the grammys, he likely wasn't refering to his US citizenship and not that we are all Americans in the colloquial English understanding; he was likely asserting a shared identity among the people of that Americas.
I think some of what Bad Bunny has done here may be lost on most of the anglosphere.
"American" is our denonym for US citizens in English. AFAIK, Spanish speakers use the equivalent "americano" to refer to citizens of the Americas broadly.
