Henning: 15 thoughts, predictions as the Tigers open their 2025 season
Fifteen irrepressible thoughts about the 2025 Tigers as they prepare for an opening series against (gulp) the Dodgers.
Looking at the Tigers in 2025, and seeing much: a pair of potential mid-season surprises, via trade and minor-league promotion; a win-loss record dented severely by the Parker Meadows void; rebound for a certain hitter; trade chips emerging. Detroit News.https://shorturl.at/gzDXT

The institutional Democratic Party is guided by an almost pathological level of conflict avoidance in almost every direction. βWhat can we do to make the least number of people mad?β is just a bankrupt way to operate.

Michigan would be exquisitely served by a Buttigieg Senate run. But the nation would be better-led if he runs for the White House in 2028. Am of the unshakeable conviction he will win, in either pursuit. Believe others, by the day, will see him as a nation's desperately needed answer. And he is.

Tigers expected to sign Cris Rodriguez as Latin American forays improve
The Tigers are expected to sign one of the top available prospects when the international signing period begins Wednesday.
The past two Tigers signing scorecards from Latin America, including Wednesday's formal announcements, hint that a long-fumbling MLB club has turned around its domestic, and international, safaris. What's changed? Detroit News story. shorturl.at/rZMnv

Can we just admit that we NEED immigrants for our economy to run, from agriculture to high tech?
Weβre a goddamn nation of immigrants, arenβt we? Letβs be proud of our immigrant heritage!

Should we continue to encourage kids to go to college ? Or push them to take up a trade ?
I believe in college. Learning how to learn, IMO, is a critical life skill. Being exposed to people of different backgrounds, makes yiu wiser
Qualifier- it should be a school you can afford.

Pre-Existing Conditions
Our healthcare system has been broken for a long time. Here are some old thoughts on the same old problems.
@gregolear.bsky.social is 100% right when he predicts if GOP repeals ACA and replaces it with anything less than universal healthcare there will be hell to pay. Vigilantes will be coming for them from both sides of the political spectrum. #EnoughIsEnough

Another environmental catastrophe caused by Russians east of Crimea, after one of their decaying oil tankers broke apart on high seas 2 days ago, 35km of pristine coastline has been contaminated in true Russian style.
And these tankers are now all over the world.

Disagree: Been voting for 35 years and it's not always a slam dunk. Lots of players through the years are within an eyelash, either way. It helps sometimes to table a vote for a year, or even more. History constantly sharpens perspective. You want a vote to be disciplined, and not one you regret.

Neither gender nor sexual orientation compares with the prejudice Obama twice defeated. To repeat: Nikki Haley easily would have tromped Biden, or Harris, had she been able to wrest Trump from the cult. Buttigieg won't get votes from those who would never vote for a Dem. But he'll get ample others.

"Qualifications" are easily established as Presidential candidates go. But you've got to make people excited to vote for you. HRC began with 55% unfavorables. They never changed. Harris flunked out of the 2020 primary, then had Biden's (unjust) stigma. She did better, frankly, than anticipated.

It's not gender, per se. And here's your proof: Had Trump not somehow obstructed her way, Nikki Haley would have been the GOP nominee, and winner, against either Biden or Harris. Being gay will no more disqualify Buttigieg than being Black kept Obama from two terms. It's about the person -- solely.

Betsey: Buttigieg would have won the nomination in 2024 had Biden not gummed-it-up. He'll be a transformative presence in 2028. When the world will need a transformative U.S. President.

Pete knows what will be up in 2028, and that his time is coming. Not sure he wants to give away the goods quite yet. He can talk governor's race and be prudent in doing so. But he knows that in '28 the time will be right for Buttigieg. More than right.

Disagree, David: Buttigieg has what Obama had. And then some. And by 2028, the world -- Black people, particularly -- will be ready for a man of Buttigieg's intelligence and virtue. We will have empty reservoirs there.
