Reddit is, as far as things go, actually ok.

Does it have flaws? Sure. But it’s a generally liberal space

All this was a choice. I can’t get over how all of this was a choice. A plurality of American voters saw corruption, bigotry, pandemic, economic crisis, coup attempt, and criminal conviction, then opted for more.

If we made the green energy transition this war would be unthinkable and these authoritarians wouldn’t be in power β€” not in the US, not in Iran, not in Saudi Arabia, not in Russia. Hydrocarbons are killing our freedom and just plain killing us.

Just going to be clear: THIS is the person that the part of the left angry at Mamdani right now is insisting isn't an antisemite

If you're supporting Susan Abulhawa, just block me, please. You shouldn't be anywhere near a Jew's timeline

Shout out to all the PSUV gusanos who pretended to be leftists for like 16 years just to sell out the homeland like this. Well played.

Re the Hormuz, not saying I'm an expert on the sitch, but are we really too proud to try historically vetted measures like sacrificing a high ranking member of the royal family to propitiate the sea god

14.03.2026 20:16 πŸ‘ 2257 πŸ” 295 πŸ’¬ 95 πŸ“Œ 22

this is extreme but imo any dem elected who advocates for no taxes on tips/cutting all taxes for individuals under $100k or w/enshould be primaried and removed from political life

I’m sorry to channel Macintyre but this is not a recipe to build a functioning society. treats are not a telos

I am trying to think of any security assurances anyone could offer Iran as part of a negotiated cease fire, and I can't think of anything except the GCC+Iraq canceling US basing rights and closing the gulf to foreign warships.

In theory, Iran would have pretty big incentives to open the strait up within weeks if the bombing stopped. They’d go from being the victim to the enemy if they continued to screw over every other country.

But the bombing hasn’t and won’t because the Republican Party is a death cult.

14.03.2026 20:08 πŸ‘ 14 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 1

they absolutely do have control over the situation

Trump can stop bombing them today (he absolutely should) but the world economy is fucked unless Iran decides to open the strait and there isn’t really anything anyone can do about it

Militarily? Not at all.

They could probably broker a peace but both sides are too far apart, notably Trump thinks everyone else should join his war

14.03.2026 19:59 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

The Turks, as an example, notably, had to be bailed out after Egypt more or less crushed them in the Levant.

That pretty much marked the end of the ottomans as an agent in their own destiny until the end of WW1

14.03.2026 19:53 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Nobody is going to bailout Trump here like this for several reasons - power disparity (nobody wants to go to war to enforce a peace the US will break in six months) being chief amongst them.

14.03.2026 19:52 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

In the 19th and early 20th century, a Great Power that so badly disrupted the world economy / balance of power and/or been humiliated would have been forced into a conference where a humiliating agreement would have been forced on them - while the other powers guaranteed a peace through force

Still seeing some people insisting this is all over soon because Iranian fire rates are falling

14.03.2026 19:00 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

It’s crystal clear now that Trump has lost control of this war. He badly misjudged Iran’s ability to retaliate. The region is on fire.

1/ I’m going to explain to you in this🧡what I’ve learned - in part from closed door briefings - about the four biggest current crises.
