Love this new evidence of the cognitive sophistication of cows and hope that it might make a few people rethink whether they want meat on their plates

Thank you! I’m very glad you enjoyed the paper. 🤠
I also push back against a prominent argument for the view that memory and imagination are fundamentally the same kind of thing, and I suggest that the characterization of the episodic memory system need not be aligned with the causal theory of memory.
I argue that memory is different in kind from imagination, and that to genuinely remember an event is to entertain a representation produced by a reliable episodic memory system that prioritizes firsthand information in simulating events from the personal past (hence “discontinuist simulationism”).
My paper, “Memory and imagination: toward discontinuist simulationism”, has been accepted for publication in Philosophical Psychology!

My paper 'Memory traces and the (anti)causalist debate' has been published in Philosophical Psychology.
In it, I argue that the debate between causalism and simulationism is a debate about the functional profile of the episodic memory system (1/4)
