I feel like it should be more widely unpopular that in the past year we’ve witnessed the creation of an American Stasi required to meet arrest quotas who utilize an AI technology created by a company run by a sweaty raisin of a billionaire who thinks Greta Thunberg is the antichrist.

ICE agents reveal daily arrest quotas and surveillance app in rare court testimony Under oath, officers said they were told to make eight arrests a day and given special tech to help choose β€˜targets’

When a federal judge (finally) put ICE officers under oath, they admitted that they are given daily detention quotas and rely heavily on a Palantir-supplied AI tool to select targets, without warrants and without enough evidence to obtain one. They simply go into neighborhoods and round people up.

I wonder what the popularity of Trump as well as the active resistance against him would be if Americans would get their information from non-U.S. media rather than from the sane-washing legacy U.S. media.

Spain could be the only EU country to beat energy price hikes Spain spent the last six years investing heavily in wind and solar energy, leading to some of the cheapest power prices in Europe.

β€œI'd prefer to be dependent on China for the import of solar panels & batteries, than I would, for oil & gas coming from the Gulf, and I'll tell you why… if I buy that solar panel, that battery, that wind turbine, that transformer, I buy it once every 25 years. I don't have to buy it every day”

This.

If you don’t draw a line in the sandβ€”regardless of a hearing’s or impeachment’s outcomeβ€”you’ve essentially declared an offense acceptable.

A handy precedent for more of the same.

This is exactly right.

Age verification / online ID check legislation literally forces companies to collect MORE data on children (and everyone else) not less.

We desperately need privacy, antitrust, and algorithmic justice legislation.

Not censorship bills like KOSA and expanded surveillance.

When I watched a smiling Lionel Messi applauding Trump’s cartoon villain bloodlust, I thought about Muhammad Ali going on international television to deliver his poem condemning the Attica prison massacre, telling the world that fascists would never conquer the human spirit.

In first, CIA acknowledges 1953 coup it backed to overthrow leader of Iran was undemocratic While other American officials have made similar remarks in the past, the acknowledgment by the CIA in a podcast about the agency’s history comes as much of its official history of the coup still rema...

I wonder what percentage of Americans knows that the CIA helped overthrow a democracy in Iran in 1953, installing a brutal dictator who tortured and murdered people. Republicans keep citing the 1979 Islamic Revolution as if that was the start of U.S.-Iran hostilities. Go back 26 years earlier.

There's something deeply obscene and broken about the fact that Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are bombing elementary schools in an illegal war of aggression, and there's still a sense among the opposition that it has to be explained in terms of gas prices in order to get American voters to care.

Trump multiple times just today has said the country is at war. War can only be declared by Congress, and Iran posed no imminent threat. What Trump is doing there is a textbook illegal war and impeachable offense β€” if we still had a Congress.

I truly do think all of the "Noem out, Mullin in" posts and stories are failing American democracy right now!

Trump is announcing his nominee.

That's it.

If the Senate majority wants to confirm him, they're a part of thisβ€”even after knowing what they know now.

And that matters come November.

U.S. sub sinks Iranian warship off Sri Lanka, killing 87 and expanding war zone A U.S. submarine sank an Iranian warship off the southern coast of Sri Lanka, killing dozens of sailors and dramatically widening Washington's pursuit of the Iranian navy.

A US submarine sinking a lonely, dinky Iranian surface ship an ocean away from the theater of the main conflictβ€”and 9000
miles from North Americaβ€”makes it pretty clear the US is fighting a general war, without the declaration required by the Constitution. www.reuters.com/world/asia-p...

It's not worth overthinking this speech which basically reads like an essay Stephen Miller submitted to the local American Legion Chapter when he was 11 for their July 4 contest for which the top prize was a $50 savings bond. But it's still a massive, reactionary, fascistic erasure of US History.

What’s the Point of School When AI Can Do Your Homework? The creator of the AI agent β€œEinstein” wants to free humans from the burden of academic labor. Critics say that misses the point of education entirely.
