Predictors of response compliance in ESM / EMA research
Why do participants stop responding in #ESM / #EMA studies? π±π
Average compliance is about 7οΈβ£9οΈβ£%, but that hides massive variation.
Our new m-Path blog reviews predictors of response compliance: study design, incentives, participant traits, and time effects.

ppt slide that states three considerations: 1, intentional pauses; 2, sequencing; 3, human grounding.
ppt slide that provides a quote from a published paper. reads, "by institutionalizing time and space for listening and dialogue, organizations re-anchor work in social context and help counter the depleting, individualizing effects of fast, ai-mediated work"
online this afternoon for an #AMPlify2026 session with @solangeglasser.bsky.social who's talking working with AI.
I appreciated explicit consideration of giving yourself time and space to think, and reflecting on how you curate that relative to your processes.

IMPLICATIONS: Substantial and meaningful variation in listener habits is evident even in a sample of younger adults, who -- largely from a technology use perspective -- are often grouped together with an assumption that they engage in music quite similarly.

Figure 1. Profile plot of the four extracted latent profiles (n = 584). Four lines are plotted against the inputted variables showing the different profiles.
RESULTS: LPA identified four distinct profiles of listeners: disengaged consumers (5.8% of the sample), enthusiasts (14.2%) and two mainstream listening profiles differentiated by paid (52.6%) versus free streaming use (27.4%).

METHOD: We included 17 indicators in our LPA models (standardized to aid with interpretation): a music importance rating, 2 MUSEBAQ scores, 7 music format usage ratings, 2 musical self-image scores, and 5 MET scores.

METHOD: We used Latent Profile Analysis (LPA), a statistical technique that identifies latent subgroups within a population, to explore profiles of music listening in younger adults.
Sample= 584 adults aged 17-35 (Mage = 19.61) residing in Australia (74.1% female + 23.3% male).

BACKGROUND: Even though listening technologies greatly impact listening practices, much of the research on their use is descriptive. Krause and North (2016) argued psychological constructs should be considered when investigating listening practices and technology use.

A particular moment in my favourite Radiohead song always gives me goosebumps every time I play it. Turns out susceptibility to such βchillsβ (induced by music, poetry, art) varies between people & that genetic differences play a part.
