1919 Executive Statement on the Postal workers strike

September 25th, Minister of Government Transforma-tion, Public Services and Procurement, JoΓ«l Light-bound announced he would be granting Canada Post liberty to shutter rural offices and to systematically restructure the letter carrier system. This decision grants the corporation enormous power to disregard the ongoing negotiations with CUPW in pursuit of its privatization agenda.
The 1919 Workers Collective regards the minister's decision as an attack on the democratic interests of all working people. It is absolutely necessary for CUPW to fight against this encroachment by the government, which we see as exposing its contempt for the workers just demands for the fulfillment and expansion of their services to the public.

everything from their purchases of unnecessary EV fleets, to their sale of IT and logistics departments, to their massive expansions of facilities. This is all backed up now by the minister's claim of "insolven-cy," uncritically parotted by the mainstream press.
But this is about more than just the selling off of one of Canada's largest public services.
By granting Canada Post carte blanche, the government is attempting to use the company to dismantle one of Canada's last remaining union strongholds by purging its members and activists through mass layoffs. In doing so, it exposes that it sees the entire system of collective bargaining as nothing more than pretense, which can be easily thrown away when it becomes inconvenient. In this way the government openly declares that it has no regard for the system of collective bargaining. The serious danger confronting the labour movement today is remaining hitched to this legal circus, which risks driving workers deeper into cynicism and defeatism.
We call on all workers to immediately mobilize in support of CUPW. Postal workers must not be left (continued on slide 3)

alone to carry on as if the strike is an empty formality, or an act of desperation. Their labour is a real pow-er, and the strike is a real combat! We must rally to support our fellow workers and inspire confidence in them to see that struggle is possible, necessary, and correct.
We must do what we can to support CUPW in their struggle, but this cannot be all we do. What is happening at Canada Post is only one front in the broader war being waged against the workers of this country.
In order to resist the agenda of this anti-people gov-ernment, we must adopt a strategy aiming to organize broad majorities of working people across every in-dustry-union and non-union-from the shop floor up.
We call for committees to be built in every work-place, especially in the large plants, with the aim of involving and training the entire workforce in class struggle by leading them in direct confrontations with the employers. We call on all workers who give a damn about opposing this government's phony "moderniza-tion" agenda to collaborate with the 1919 Workers Collective in building these committees.

A new bombshell report just dropped that exposes hundreds of Canadian arms shipments to Israel.

I reached out to the government about this...and their response suggested either further obfuscation or that they're uninformed about weapons exports during a genocide.

Here's what happened:

Israel has been bombing just in the last 2 years, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and now Iran, and still manages somehow to play the victim. Anyone who has "stood" with them or "recognizes their right to self-defense" is a complete fool.

Stop lying to yourself about strategic voting The other day, I saw my first Conservative placard.

My latest -- honest takes on strategic voting are few and far between, so here something to chew on.
