Yes, trade minister Hattmannsdorfer gave that statement. He has been heavily (!) criticised in domestic media by farmers from his own party. That split is still very much there. And farmes are in better position bc current parliament resolution is in their favour and binds Hattmannsdorfers vote.
The situation hasn't changed really. Social democrats still against, liberals still in favour, conservatives still split. To vote in favour the parliament resolution of 2019 would need to be overturned. For that both social democrats AND conservative farmers would need to actively support. Unlikely!
If perm rep actually said something different, this would be highly interesting. At the moment the Austrian position is still set to a "no" by a binding parliament resolution from 2019. This could of course be overturned in theory, but in practice that is highly (!) unlikely.
Hi, this is a brochure by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce which has always been pro EU-Mercosur. To my best understanding (after being deep in this debate in Austria for 6 years) it is not the position of the Austrian government, which hasn't changed. Or did they actually say something different?
