I love this so much. The kind of art I want to hang in my room.

Who else wants the next Arcane series to be about Xayah? Anyone else out there? I like Xayah.
Gotta have Pochita there!
Oh cool!
This looks really cool. What do the numbers on the bottom stand for?
Sunshine, Luigis Mansion and Pikmin 2 were formative games for me for sure. Also kirbys air ride was the definitive couch co-op games during sleepovers.
Whenever a new MMO comes out, I need to figure out how the gearing works. Will it be a new form of gearing? Will it follow base MMO rules like WoW? Will I instantly uninstall if I see an enhancement system?
If you made it down here, what's your favorite MMO and way to gear?
To upgrade an accessory, you need a second version of that accessory. If this wasn't bad enough, if you fail at upgrading an accessory, both accessories break in the enhancement process. It's an RNG nightmare that will force players into paying for RNG boosts to get the gear they want.
If you hit duo (17), and fail the enhancement, it drops back down to pri. This means you don't need to get lucky once, you need to get lucky five times, with each chance being lower than the last.
From 1 to 15 though, if you fail, you can get a bonus enhancement percent. (Fail a 50% chance, next chance is 60%). The soul sucking part comes afterwards. 16 - 20 is called pri-duo-tri-tet-pen. Once you hit Pri (16) on a piece of armor, it can never drop below that.
There are 20 levels of enhancing. The first are +1 to +15. Enhancements cost materials, more materials the higher you go. The first few enhancements are at a 100% chance of success, but the higher you go, the smaller it can get. If you fail to level up, you lose the materials.
There aren't a lot of gear sets in BDO, especially when comparing to other mmo's. Gearing up in BDO is entirely RNG dependent and designed to encourage the player spend money in the in game shop to have better chances of gearing. To increase the power of an armor piece, you need to enhance it.
Black Desert Online is an incredibly popular MMO. I have over 1600 hours in it (most of it horse training lol), but it has one of the most frustrating and gamer milking gearing mechanics ever. I'm not sure of the exact name of this system, so I'll call it the enhancement system.
By having all gear be at the same cap, new gear has the chance to be basically dead on arrival. New sets that you will never use because why would you. It can also lead to incredibly stale builds if certain pieces of gear can stay powerful for far too long.
That piece of gear you put a ton of time into getting will always be useable. You will never feel like the grind you did wasn't worth it because you know a shinier staff is going to make yours obsolete. The downside is when you think about the meta or use that that's statistically better.
One thing WoW does is make gear useless when the next patch or expansion comes out. A lot of MMO's do this, but ESO doesn't. Elder Scrolls gearing has gear that can stay relevant even past patches and expanions as at max level, all of the gear is at the same height. This has a LOT of pros to it!
ModernWoW is more focused on getting the right gear with the right stats to customize your character to the tiniest percentage. Because of this, it showers you in gear. Neither of these gearing systems are worse or better than the other because they're basically in different games and styles.
In Classic, across the dungeons you can do at max level, there are 15 epic pieces of gear. In the War Within, in one dungeon (The Stonevault), 26 pieces of gear drop, and that's just one dungeon out of 8. The epics from classic are valued way higher because of this.
The Westfall defias storyline will eventually lead you to receiving an amazing blue piece of gear that your character will use for many levels. It's a slow burn that has a large payoff. ModernWoW is different in the way that the gearing isn't a slow burn anymore.
World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft classic have the same gearing system while the acquisition of gear is totally different. WoWClassic focuses more on a very slow progression of power. You can do entire questlines like in Duskwood where hours of work gets you a new helmet or shoulder piece.
Let's talk about gearing in MMO's.

To me, gearing your characters is one of the most important parts of the game. It's a mark that really lets you see how far you've come while playing the game. I'll touch on some games below, but not FF 14. I have not played enough of it :(
Here's a webtoon I really enjoy called To Not Die. Webtoons will drop really cool single panels like this. I will say though, it has more impact if you know the story behind it. The art is still cool though.
Just like Osaragi, every time this guy is drawn, he's drawn in such a horribly menacing way.
I remember reading this chapter when it came out in 2015 almost 10 years ago. Gave me chills.
Pretty much every double or full page panel of Dandadan is amazingly drawn. Here is one of my favorites.
In Chainsawman, Fujimoto will randomly drop the most goated panels.
