Following a hugely energising @greenparty.ie Convention in Kilkenny this weekend, we took the stragglers out on a guided walk of Newpark Fen with Pat Durkan of @birdwatchireland.bsky.social
Mรญle buรญochas all on a great few days for our green movement, here and across the pond.

The recent flooding has shown us that nature based solutions are central to environmental solutions. To the forefront of that are our farmers who know this land better than anyone.

Traveller Primary Healthcare Projects have been a success story set against many years of failure to progress Traveller health and wellbeing.
Today Ann Friel of Donegal Traveller Primary Healthcare Team and Mary Nevin of Longford TPHP joined us at committee to talk about the work of the teams.

So much positivity and unity at todayโs protest against the governments SNA plan (or lack thereof). It was inspiring to see so many people come together and to hear from parents, carers, SNAs, and the kids who need them to get through school.

The Green Party is about solutions.
Here are just two put forward by @malcolmnoonan.bsky.social this week that would improve cost of living and sustainability while ensuring better energy security and helping farmers.
Thatโs a lot of possibility that is most importantly achievable!

A huge turnout of farmers in Athlone today, opposing the #Mercosur trade deal.
It's time for a wider conversation in Ireland on regenerative farming, one that rewards farm families for producing good food, restoring nature, fixing our water and locking up carbon.

This government abandoned lower speed limits and abandoned reforms to the RSA. Is this what "deeply concerned" and "doing everything" looks like?
Red light cameras were supposed to be installed early this year. Where are they?
My last cycling ramble of 2025, down to Fennessy's flax mills on the Nore in Kilkenny; a rich part of our industrial heritage.
I'm looking forward to the year ahead, collaborating towards a safe, ecological future for all living things. Athbliain faoi mhaise daoibh go lรฉir.
Winter solstice 2025 at Knockroe passage tomb in Kilkenny.
The sun didn't break the clouds, but the message of hope, of renewal, of our place in nature, among all of us gathered, shone through. #solstice
1990 and the aftermath of two concerts in Kilkenny by the great Joe Ely (yep, that's me on the left). Our band opened for him on the first gig.
I am saddened to hear of his passing today. Joe was a trailblazer; a pioneer of early americana. Rest in peace #JoeEly
My reaction to the 2025 Article 17 Report on the state of Ireland's habitats and species.
While some species are doing well, the overall state of habitats and freshwater ecosystems is not good.
Celebrating the derogation extension isn't a good look by govt.
www.greenparty.ie/news/eu-repo...
Using a possible three year extension to the nitrates derogation to co-design a regenerative model of agriculture that works for farm families, for nature, water and climate, rather than face the uncertainty again, would be a wise use of time by government.

Talking to ecology students in Trinity College, I spoke of the need for creativity and collaboration in the great nature restoration challenge. It will be resource hungry; human and financial and the state needs to lead by example.
Mรญle buรญochas @marcuscollier.bsky.social as an cuireadh.
Minister O' Brien has brought to cabinet, a memo on the general scheme of an MPA bill as an amendment to the MAP Act; no timeline for its introduction to the Dรกil.
In climate committee this week, wind energy sector told me their preference was the standalone MPA bill. We all await publication.
A full house here tonight for our event with @elainemcgoff.bsky.social from @antaisce.bsky.social including two Oireachtas members: Wexford Labour TD George Lawlor and @greenpartyie.bsky.social Senator @malcolmnoonan.bsky.social which is very encouraging. We can work together to #SaveLadysIslandLake
@greenpartyie.bsky.social members out in force for the @stopclimatechaos.bsky.social demo in Dublin.
Building on this collaboration between climate, nature, social inclusion, development NGOs and politics will be vital to force a radical change in direction here in Ireland. ๐ฎ๐ช
The Central Bank and Climate Councilโs joint report is clear - we must remove the barriers to investment in climate adaptation.
Government needs to give communities and businesses the support they need to protect their homes and livelihoods.

I'm pleased to share that as of today, I will serve as the Chairperson of the Oireachtas Cross-Party Cancer Group - a group of TDs and Senators who work alongside the Irish Cancer Society to hear directly from cancer patients and fight to improve cancer services across the country (1/4)
Raising the matter of Marine Protected Area (MPA) legislation with MoS for Marine, Timmy Dooley.
He tells me a new approach bringing amendments to the MAP Act is nearing completion and includes many of the elements of the old draft bill, including public participation.
Two men who shared a deep understanding and love of our heritage, culture, nature and our language and saw it through a lens of inclusion, a celebration of diversity.
A Presidency defined by courage and compassion.

Heritage Ireland Summit 2025 focused on the contribution of children and young people towards shared appreciation and celebration of our built, natural, cultural and archaeological heritage.
It was wonderful to meet up with people from across a heritage sector that is thriving.
Conversations on the potential of restoring seagrass and salt marsh habitats to store carbon hosted by @ucdearth.bsky.social
A hugely informative event; as Govt scrambles to meet sectoral targets, consideration on these habitats needs further attention.
A link to a discussion on Claire Byrne Live @rteone.rte.ie with Phelim Molloy (INHFA) and myself on the state buying high nature value land for restoration.
I think its good for nature, farming and rural communities bringing wider societal and economic benefit.

A poster outlining the event which shows an aerial view of the algae on the lake and notes speakers from Save Ladys Island Lake Campaign, Lough Neagh Rivers Trust and Sustainable Water Network will be present. The online talk will happen at 7pm on Thursday 30th October.
Ourselves and Green Foundation Ireland are hosting a webinar on how the current disaster has developed and how people can support our campaign to reverse this ecological catastrophe. We will have a panel of experts discussing key issues. Registration is free:

It was a privilege to open day two of the Kildare Wildlife Rescue biodiversity conference.
Wildlife rehabbers like KWR will play an important role in our collective efforts to restore nature at scale in Ireland. Well done on two inspiring days for nature.
No new money for nature restoration, a static heritage budget and nothing meaningful to fix our rivers, lakes and estuaries.

At the start of our Oireachtas Committee on Key issues affecting the Traveller community, we observed a minute's silence to remember the victims of the Carrickmines fire, ten years ago today.
Ten years on and many Traveller families are still living in dangerous, overcrowded conditions.
I joined the #Love30 campaign protest yesterday. Earlier we heard many excuses from the Minister's adviser as to why he couldn't introduce default speed limits.
Every day delayed will only bring more heartbreak to families. Numbers of deaths of vulnerable road users are far too high.
