It's easy to see these men as individual bad apples. But I'd argue--they were enabled by "elite" universities' look-the-other-way approach to dealing with big-name bad actors, and by the fact that, societially, we treat people associated with "elite" schools as automatically deserving of deference.

Centre d'Estudis Demogràfics El Centre d’Estudis Demogràfics fou fundat l’any 1984 amb una triple missió: promoure la recerca, la docència i la difusió del coneixement en matèria de població.

One of the things I like very much about this work, besides the messy and yet powerful figure in the beginning, is that all replication materials for this work and other related [3] are open to the public [4].

In this work [2], we measure inequality configurations in Spain and argue that isolated policies such as cash transfers, employability aids, etc, will do little to counter structural ineq. configurations, particularly among the younger generations and immigrants.

This lack of recognition - which potentially stems from the hegemonic use of research frameworks that focus on marginal effects of variables on outcomes [1] - limits our capacity to understand the scope of social inequalities and tackle them from a policy perspective.

A structural feature of social stratification in contemporary societies is the confluence of advantages and disadvantages. It seems an obvious fact, and yet it is not fully recognized. The highly educated have greater income, privileged access to housing, prestigious occupations.... (1/5)

Some Contributions from Geometry to Linear Models’ Construction in Social Sciences - Frédéric Lebaron, Andrés F. Castro T., 2018 Are we cautious enough when using linear models? After the 1970s linear models became the most common method for quantitative social scientists. More discussion...

It all comes from concerns and ideas regarding the geometric interpretation of linear models.

We found that linear modeling frameworks (LMF) are used hegemonnically in the Social Sciences, meaning that LMF are numerically dominant and unequally distributed to the potential detriment of alternative frameworks.
