"Academic writing is a form of thinking. It’s not the transcription of thoughts already completed, but a process of thinking itself."

Elif Shafak on stage with a gold background and a pink banner saying The National Humanities lecture

What a joy to see our @rsliterature.bsky.social President Elif Shafak deliver the National Humanities Lecture at the School of Advanced Study @sas-news.bsky.social. A beautiful reflection on and defence of the long form of literature, and many other things too.

Professor finds Iron Age coin hoard near Bury St Edmunds Tom Licence says he feels a personal connection to the coins, which are to be auctioned.

The other thing I've been thinking about that hoard - there was no opportunity, none at all, for the heritage community, the public to intervene to stop this. 1/4

Genuinely angry with the constant targeting of MFL for cuts - for colleagues and students, first, but also the dangerous shortsightedness of becoming a country where the cultural openness and critical skills which are central to MFL degrees will be lost and regarded as irrelevant.
