It's not something you or I can do, but Cloudflare, AMS, and Microsoft do as a part of their server service. Which means if I had a small game online and Used Cloudflare I would be immune the the level of DDoS that FFXIV faces.
The DDoS is malicious, it's someone in Russia or at least the attacks are coming from Russia. The thing is Large Companies usually can build net architechure that can mitigate DDoS's to the point of useless if they are willing to spend about 1 million on specific server upgrades.

For fun, my steam top 5. Any game I play for 100hours or more, means I enjoyed it.
Which is why I can confidently say, yes it is Game of the Year quality, and I will never play it or buy it. Meanwhile I've spent almost 1k hours on possibly the worst AAA game of the year due to it having a Gameloop and setting I like. Dune:Awakening.
disliking a thing and reconizing it is great anyway is a talent I have. I was not interested in playing it, due to hearing spoilers and it follows themes I do not enjoy. My partner played it, and they didn't like aspects of the gameplay. But they did say it was well designed.
Not shocked its on the list strongly, the capitalists picks are the games from big studios that were trash but somehow get nominated away
This does mean games that the studios like get nominated, but I should point out Claire Osborne Expedition 33 was made by an independent studio, and is genuinely the best game of the year, with the best talent as well.
