I know a couple of young women teachers who went out there to spend a few years saving up for a deposit. That seems understandable and wouldnβt be so tempting if we paid our public sector workers better at home. Ok, they also wanted the sun and adventure, but so do many other youngsters.

A row of pelicans by the sea, sitting and standing on a pipe.
That brings back memories! Your pic caught them so well. I mostly tried to catch them flying with their dinosaur wings but no success there.

Maybe he can be persuaded to focus on his research instead of the politics. Never too late to quit the day job and become a historical YouTuber. Either that, or if the jobs can be combined, can we get Cambrian Chronicles as prime minister here?

It might not have. I use Nebula for following creators that I already know about who have accounts there, to get their extra content and no sponsorships. But still rely on YouTube reccos for discovering new creators, and for variety because YT still has more breadth.

Yes I only knew Tori Amos as βwasnβt she the one who did Cornflake Girl?β It was very mainstream here in the UK. Was interested to learn the rest of her story from Lindsayβs video though.

Might just be what circles you move in. I work in tech, where the main discussion is whether it will put tech worker jobs at risk, with no mention of medical jobs.

Metric or imperial: what measures do Britons use? | YouGov
While young Britons still tend to use imperial forΒ height, temperature, speed and long distances, they now use metricΒ forΒ short distances and weight
48 here and still in stones, so maybe it is just me whoβs old fashioned then. Heard it was more prevalent among women too but canβt find a source for that. Hereβs more detail about the age split from 2022. yougov.co.uk/society/arti...

Donβt forget that distances are in miles unless you are running, while food weights and temperature depend how old you are.

Even if health is the top priority, shouldnβt they still prioritise adult social care and free school meals as cost-effective contributions to that overall goal? For example: so hospitals can safely discharge people quicker, and kids will grow up healthier. Curious if there is data for that.

Some things that provide sometimes-wrong answers are still useful overall. For example Wikipedia. But he could have phrased the nuance better, if thatβs what he meant.

Is this part the main reason why it doesnβt work? βsocial housing demolished and luxury developments built in their placeβ.
Otherwise naively increasing any supply like the older homes could get affordable when the rich move out into these new developments. But not if total count is reducing.

Not sure about this. I voted remain but that was partly because I liked having the EU looking after us, with stuff like food quality and human rights.

China stands out as a bit more surprising than the rest to be on the unsung list. Do they use some Wikidata-like alternative thing of their own instead, like their other Big Tech stuff?

Pets controlling their owners might be a better example. They can equally control through being cute and noisy, plus exert more physical control (teeth, claws) than a baby. And maybe unfair to say the baby is less intelligent than the mother. Less knowledgeable, sure, but much faster at learning.

Also it doesnβt give the context of the conversation. Calling her βan English womanβ rather than e.g. βa friendβ or βa colleagueβ - it doesnβt sound like they knew each other well. So she was probably surprised that a random guy came up to her and started arguing a point.
