EPA tells scientists to stop publishing studies, employees say
Staff from the EPAโs Office of Water were summoned to a town hall meeting this week and told to pause the publication of most research, pending a review.
Breaking news: The Environmental Protection Agency has ordered scientists in at least one of its research offices to immediately pause almost all research and stop publishing their studies.

I now also have a (work in progress) list of #DataViz specific resources as well!

You can find links to tools, papers, books, blogs, and websites that are related to data visualisation. I'll be adding more resources soon ๐

Beautiful blog post by @hectorsocas.bsky.social where he argues that the โalien shipโ idea for 3I/ATLAS is an example of poor scientific reasoning: post-hoc coincidences, cherry-picked data, and unfalsifiable claims. On the contrary, useful science requires predictive, testable hypotheses.

Trumpโs budget takes aim at gold standard measurement of atmospheric carbon dioxide
OPINION: โPresident Trump, a renowned climate change denier, has shown repeatedly that he has no use for scientific data that disproves his preconceived assumptions,โ David Ho writes.
I wrote about the Keeling Curve โ our most iconic COโ time series โ for @sfchronicle.com.
"The Keeling Curve is valuable to science, but it is also a treasure that belongs to humanity as the most poignant indication of our impact on the environment and as a testament to our ability to document it."

Barplot showing the adsorption capacity of PLA (in micrograms of Cr per gram of PLA) as a function of the initial redox state of Chromium and the PLA state (pristine, humic-coated, tannic-coated, humic in solution, tannic in solution or UV-aged). Source: own

๐ก Why does this matter?
Biodegradable plastics, like PLA, arenโt just "eco-friendly"; they can also transport pollutants or, potentially, act as tools for environmental remediation!

๐ Tannic acid stands out:
Reduces Cr(VI) to less toxic Cr(III)
Boosts adsorption significantly
These findings help us understand the risks of microplastics in aquatic environments and their potential applications in pollutant mitigation.

๐ Key insights:
1๏ธโฃ UV-aging increases chromium adsorption:
- Cr(III): 60x
- Cr(VI): 15x
2๏ธโฃ Organic matter (e.g humic & tannic acids) facilitates redox reactions, affecting Cr adsorption. Its effect depends on whether it is dissolved or as a surface coating.

Hi, I'm Carlos Rey-Castro, I am professor at UdL and AGROTECNIO research center (Spain). My personal website is carlosreycastro.github.io and my ORCID is orcid.org/0000-0002-92.... I was unsure about the most adequate list so I also asked the Geosciences feed. Sorry for double requests!

If Bluesky seems dead or low activity on your end it might be that you haven't yet made the most of its design. It's different from Twitter in some key ways so you have to interact differently. I'm writing these tips below from my non-techy perspective, techies please weigh in if I get things wrong:
