I color it to go with the mood. I usually keep it similar colors to the existing background to indicate that its a sort of background ambient noise. I use contrast to let the audience know if its a noticeable noise to the characters and other things like if its hot or cold etc.

Introduce yourself with some jobs you've done apart from what you do now:
Climbing gym (route setter, belayer, trainer, private instruction, front desk, day management)
Contractor's day help (interior wall painting, furniture moving)
Grocery stocking (stocking, training, ordering)
I'm not required to make small talk but I have some general phrases I'm encouraged to rattle off. It helps me tell if customers want to be left to figure it out on their own or if they need help. I hate small talk when its not genuine but customers who want it break the ice for me and I can engage!

One of the last study-dumps I did of my species the Zenn. Still pretty accurate for how old it is. Since then they've only become more diverse in body types.
