The head and neck of a cormorant, in profile with the beak to the left. The plumage is black and shaggy, but with wisps of white, and with a clear white edge to the back to the beak. In short, breeding plumage. The round eye is an almost disconcerting aqua. The beak is yellow at its base, light gray farther out. The end of the upper beak curves down to a point, over the end of the lower beak. The background for the image is a vaguely swirling, green water surface.
