They haven't even been back an hour when Kyouji emerges from the bedroom, dressed in a suit that dries out Satomi's mouth with discomfort. It makes Kyouji look like exactly what he is. "I've gotta take care of a few things for work," he says. Satomi watches his fingers tighten his tie up to his throat before lifting his gaze to Kyouji's face. He's sitting at the kitchen table with the handouts he's missed from school; he doesn't want to think about how they made it to Kyouji's apartment. His apartment. Their apartment. He thinks about thinking before he speaks more than he actually does it. "What things?" Kyouji's laugh is more amused than obnoxious this time. "Nothing that exciting," he says. He glances at his watch, makes a brief judgment, and takes out his wallet to start counting out bills. Satomi narrows his eyes. "Here," Kyouji says, setting the pile on the table near Satomi. "Order yourself whatever you want if you get hungry, yeah? I might not be back for dinner."

His cheeks were red, but his smile was bright even if, as always, it tended towards leering. That dumb vape was in one gloved hand. He smoked from it idly as Satomi approached, as his eyes raked over Satomi. He looked at him like the last time they’d seen each other Satomi had been polite and kind and Kyouji had been anything but deflective and annoying. Dogs, even old ones — especially old ones, maybe — had short memories, after all. So did Satomi, apparently, because even though he didn’t want to he already felt like he wanted to feel how cold Kyouji’s cheeks had gotten while he waited for him. Too late to run for it now.
