Infographic says Section 21 no fault evictions are now outlawed, and this caused homelessness. Landlords can only legally evict for rent arrears, antisocial behaviour, and must give 4 months notice if evicting & selling property or moving themselves or family in. And they can't re-let if doing this for 12 months.

The Renters' Rights Act outlaws Section 21 "no fault" evictions, and gives criteria to make clear the grounds that landlords can use to legally evict. Section 21 evictions have had a significant and negative impact on levels of homelessness.

If you're out and about in Bristol, look out for our "No Place Like Home" posters as we launch our Christmas appeal, reminding us that for some people there is no place called home. Let's make Christmas different! brs.tl/donate2025

Our second prevention project is Bristol Goods. The work might begin with food, but it opens the door to the information, advice, and support that reduces the pressures and risks of housing insecurity. This prevents homelessness, and supports people after experiencing a period of homelessness.

Although prevention work is woven through everything we do, we have two key prevention projects. The first is Early Doors. The team work individually with people at increased risk of housing insecurity and homelessness to change this, and groups of residents through co-production work.

Outcomes, and lasting change, are what we strive to deliver for everyone we work alongside. We support people to feel empowered, more knowledgeable and confident, and able to pass these things on to others. This means less homelessness, less housing insecurity, and a stronger city for us all.

Our work is partnership work. We work with people. We respect their autonomy and help them to take control. Empowering people is the best way to ensure the type of change we support is lasting change.

We don't just believe homelessness prevention is vital, we think it's urgent, and we there are many ways in which we make it a reality for people, so that actions are turned into outcomes... and homelessness and housing insecurity are stopped in their tracks!

More on red flags/previous post: Obvious, or subtle, and easy to miss if you're not experienced in this area. Our teams are sensitive to the subtleties that arise in conversations, enabling them to respond with preventative actions to support people in moving back from a critical housing situation.

There are many "red flags" which are signs that an increase in housing insecurity and risk of experiencing homelessness might be on the horizon. Our Early Doors prevention project got its name, because the earlier these red flags are noticed and acted on, the less harm is caused.
