It is nearly impossible to get into secondary MH services these days. Even if you do, you still get the same old advice: “If you can’t keep yourself safe, dial 999 or get yourself to A&E.” People with longstanding MH conditions are literally instructed to behave in a way that creates this problem

IMO #MAID should never become an option for MH patients, especially if our services already routinely fail to treat the treatable safely and effectively.

I suppose the above example is extreme and oversimplified, but not entirely unforseeable. The slope appears to be slipping already in other parts of the world.

Hypothetically - where patient is suffering from a mental disorder alone, and also with suicidality -

Pt: I want to kill myself

Psych: We may be able to help with that?!?

Given that access to #MH services is universally poor across the UK, I think it would be a huge disservice to mental health patients if #MAID was introduced and then ever extended to #MH in a careless manner.

Royal College of Psychiatrists have maintained a neutral position - but have specifically stated that if sole mental disorder were to come into the scope of the eligibility criteria, they’d want to “participate comprehensively” in this process. ✅

I support #MAID being an option afforded to patients with a terminal condition nearing the end of life, but many have expressed valid and significant concerns about the way the proposed bill is written.

On #MAID - in 2027, Canada will extend their criteria to include “grievous and irremediable” mental health conditions.

City, St George's University of London was an early supporter of the PA project, launching the UK's first PA programme in 2008.

It now faces scrutiny following revelations from a 2023 revalidation report and FOI data by @idrsunny.bsky.social 🧵

My MP has joined Bluesky! ⬇️ I’m still insanely excited and happy to even have a Green MP instead of the Tory she spectacularly unseated!!

Stop misleading patients - Physician Associates cannot replace doctors We are a group of anaesthetists (doctors trained in anaesthesia) that are unhappy with the way the medical establishment is selling patients and the profession short.

We're challenging this in the court, but we're still very short of funds.

Every donation helps.
