Out of 10 men , one makes a sexual joke at a woman, two laugh, three fake a chuckle to fit in, and four stay silent. None of them speak up. Later, none of them still believe they're the "good guys." But from the woman's perspective , the laughter, the silence , the looking away, it all creates the same environment. So when women say "most men are the same," this is what they mean: not that every man harassed women, but that most men helpmprotect the system that does.

Yea, I see the resemblance to the other nine men. Taking it in seriously.
During #WomensHistoryMonth, I can personally reflect on this, and feel amazed at how women have made history despite this built in disadvantage.

(on the basis, naturally, that it would be unethical to test these drugs on children!)
it's an enormous game of Catch-22.
also worth noting that, in line with the Cass review's own recommendations, a study was planned to properly double-blind test the effects of these drugs on kids...
...and was blocked by an agency appointed by and answerable to the Health Secretary.
...but in the absence of double-blind tested evidence that it did no harm, the mere presence of non-double-blind-tested evidence that it offered substantial benefits was not considered sufficient.
worth noting that while the review found no "good quality" (i.e. double-blind) evidence that the drugs benefited kids, it found no evidence *at all* - good quality or otherwise - that it did them any harm...
several tests the Cass review dismissed *did* in fact show significant benefits across multiple metrics for trans children receiving puberty blockers, but because they weren't double-blind tests, the review simply noted their existence, dismissed them as "not good quality" and moved on
a really super important phrase here, which the Cass report itself leaned heavily on, is "good quality."
to be considered good quality, a study normally has to be double-blind - but for a lot of medical treatments, double-blind testing on children isn't ethical or appropriate
I remain fascinated by people who are 100% all-in on using LLMs at their jobs (and telling everyone that they're doing it) and who appear to have never paused to consider "what value am I personally adding in here, at this point, and why do I think my employers won't eventually figure this out"

My hottest mental health take:
A lot of depression and anxiety is situational, and warranted, because people live in shit circumstances. Theyโre poor, without resources, etc. and the reason itโs become popular to blame โmental healthโ is because itโs a way of evading responsibility.
That is patently against Parliament's clearly stated intention when the Equality Act was passed. It's completely contrary to the values the Labour party used to hold. It's clearly untenable in law based on the Goodwin decision. And it is viciously cruel.
[I'm cis] Before this Government came to power, it was uncontroversial to say that the Equality Act 2010 prevented discrimination against trans people. Since the Supreme Court judgment, Labour has actively promoted an interpretation which says the Act REQUIRES discrimination against trans people.

It's extremely clear that the US doesn't really have an objective here except to inflict maximum pain, and attacking water supply is going to end catastrophically for the entire region. It's not just a war crime, it's approaching a crime against humanity.

The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East. That's OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don't need them any longer -- But we will remember. We don't need people that join Wars after we've already won! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Boris Johnson has tweeted a link to his risible work for the Daily Mail with the words "Starmer has made Britain something worse than a laughing stock - he's made us a piffling irrelevance".
Please can someone tell Boris Johnson that a period of quiet from him would be most welcome? Preferably for the rest of his life? If the UK is a "piffling irrelevance", it is because of Johnson's Brexit.
