And online betting. That's all anyone cares about now.
Wives ask questions like that. Like, why do you need all those boxes of files in the basement? Because they have important stuff in them. All of them.
Maybe husbands do, too. But my experience is limited.
Will do. Thanks!
@claremulley.bsky.social Apologies, I meant to copy you with this post. Also, they might have met in London rather than Scotland. From the FANY archive I know that she served as a driver and interpreter secretary with the Polish Welfare Unit.
Fair enough. But with all the crap going on in the world this is small change. Everything this administration does is an outrage. Call it all out, for sure. This is cartoonish and outside norms. Add it to the long list of odious offences. It is intentional sideshow/sidebar nonsense to bait people.
Yes, it's grubby, but also meh. If it were Jill Biden or Michelle Obama, would there be the same outrage? It's a video clip of a fashion model who can read and use a Fisher Price My First Hammer on cue. Good for her and no harm done. US disrespect for the UN will persist whoever is sitting there.
I wondered briefly if the book was written by AI but decided it was so bad that only a human could produce such garbage. So where does that leave us? Better or worse than AI? Screwed either way, I suppose.
Tried to post a review for a crap self-published book on Amazon but was informed I canβt do that probably because Amazon wants to sell books, not see garbage self-published titles trashed. So, duff history gets to stay rather than get a serious review of its many shortcomings. Money, evidently.
Obituary notice in the Montreal Gazette for Colonel Jozef Kelpaczko, who died on 22 April 1985.
@silenceinpolish.bsky.social I'm hoping to learn more about Jozef Klepaczko's military service but don't know where to start. He and Janet Clouston met in Scotland while she was posted there as a FANY. They settled in Montreal after the war. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Brilliant! A review that makes an author think what they are doing is appreciated and worthwhile. Congrats!
Trumpβs speech tonight will be about Trump and how he is right about everything and the state is the most perfect ever, people are saying, and Canada and Greenland should be states to make the union even more perfect, plus Putin is my hero.
I'll check in the morning to see if I was right.
And "they muffed it." Lively, to say the least. Also intriguing with the mention of Lockhart. Immediately reminds me of the brilliant TV series 'Reilly: Ace of Spies' with a stellar cast including a young Sam Neill as Reilly. Right up there with 'The Sandbaggers' as one of my all-time favourites.
Not my car, but I can attest to this sentiment.
That was one of the best hockey games I've seen, until it wasn't.
Brace yourself for #Ottawa.
Friday night fish'n'chips here. I did my spelunking into a rabbit hole earlier in the day.
Based on the successful stage play. And with the brilliant Andrew Scott as Captain James Stagg, it's eagerly anticipated.
I corresponded with Frances maybe 25 years ago about helping her with a memoir. That was because I'd written a biography of her distant cousin Colin Dafoe, who led a medical mission to support Tito's Partisans in Yugoslavia in 1944. The project didn't go very far. But she was special.
Yikes.
What, The Rabbit of Seville wasn't playing?
On the subject of #drinkingscotchtogethertalk, 'Tunes of Glory' by James Kennaway is a great book and even better as a film with Alec Guinness and John Mills -- a close second in my list of favourites after Casablanca. That's it for me, then.
For no good reason, I am reflecting tonight on some of my least treasured accomplishments. One that comes to mind is when I was unfairly maligned in the memoir of another writer, now passed. I shouldn't give it much thought, but I'm surprised by how often it bothers me. #drinkingscotchtogethertalk
I wasn't aware of this organisation or its website and stylebook. But I'm glad I am now. Such a terrible story. We don't need to make it worse through uninformed reporting.
Most bridges are a bridge too much for me, as I am prone to gephyrophobia. But that one is ridiculous. It looks like a Galloping Gordie-in-waiting. Jeez.
But yeah, sizeable political contribution probably happened.
AI should just sit down in a corner and consider its shamefulness for sucking energy. plagiarism, and overall annoying behaviour.
@libyaliberty.bsky.social Picking up on your vibe.
My first attempt at a poem.
Fuck billionaires.
Let all their spaceships crash,
And their super yachts sink.
Let their newspapers die,
And their driverless cars crash.
We don't need them.
They are just wrecking everything.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
All unharmed. And, I was quite entertained by the other party's swearing for her obvious stupidity that led to the accident. She and her late-model Suburu were both bent out of shape by the incident. My insurance will cover it fault-free. No harm done other than to my pride.
