Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man fast-forwards to WWII for a superfluous finale
Introducing elements impossible to contain to a single film while repeating the show, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man can't have it all.
PEAKY BLINDERS: THE IMMORTAL MAN: Not good. A rehash of Tommy Shelby's late-stage battles with grief and mortality that rushes through a great premise without justifying getting the band back together after a solid end to the series.

Ghost in the Machine β Valerie Veatch [Sundance '26 Review] | In Review Online
A new film review of Ghost in the Machine, directed by Valerie Veatch, for film review site In Review Online.
Lastly, it was so difficult trying to figure out Ghost in the Machine, a doc about AI that worthily traces the history of eugenics in Silicon Valley and artificial intelligence spheres, but makes too many baffling narrative and formal choices to view as coherent

Everybody to Kenmure Street β Felipe Bustos Sierra [Sundance '26 Review] | In Review Online
A new film review of Everybody to Kenmure Street, directed by Felipe Bustos Sierra, for film review site In Review Online.
Glasgow-centric documentary Everybody to Kenmure Street is a really compelling and emotional watch: a document of collective action against state violence, and how each side was a unique expression of the city's long, complex history. My first for In Review Online

I'm assuming the Wizard of Oz sequels take on a very Dune-type of nuts, but I'm also learning they are more gay

Does anyone have any favourite films/books/music about the nice and specific theme of "returning"? For the purposes of getting cool examples, let's say I am acquainted with "Twin Peaks" and "The Odyssey"

Alex Proyas said in a Q+A for Dark City at Prince Charles a couple months ago he's been using AI for his new film. I guess if you have tons of hangups about an industry then it's easier to project life-saving benevolence on something stealing from thousands of artists, the people you care about (?)

current AV Club is great. if you think itβs still stuck in its Spanfeller-mandated wasteland era you should give it another shot.

Jacob Elordi Is a Monster in 'Euphoria.' In 'Frankenstein,' Heβs More Human Than Ever
Elordi in Frankenstein demonstrates the clear difference between a territorial, self-obsessed narcissism and a messy, still-developing self-awareness.
I'm not crazy about Guillermo Del Toro's film, but I thought Jacob Elordi's performance was significant for an actor who's gotten comfortable playing similar shades of insidious hot men.
For @teenvogue.com, I wrote about the exorcism of Nate Jacobs in FRANKENSTEIN

It Was Just an Accident Is Jafar Panahi's Suspenseful and Human Search for Answers
A procession of Iranian characters weigh both the value of vengeance and the pain of uncertainty in Jafar Panahi's It Was Just an Accident.
IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT is making its way to screens stateside (and just played LFF in the the UK), and I reviewed the film for @pastemagazine.bsky.social. A wry and moving film from Jafar Panahi, perhaps more about how life rolls on than actual revenge

Hundreds of episodes of this, working everybody to the bone up in Canada, drama and intrigue every fifteen minutes, the most furrowed, dyed brows I've ever seen. Bad TV used to mean something

33 Years Later, David Lynch's Notoriously Misunderstood Masterpiece Just Got A Huge Upgrade
The critically panned prequel has deservedly earned classic status β and it has a 4K Blu-ray restoration to match.
Criterion have given TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME a 4K upgrade; I wrote for Inverse about how, way before THE RETURN, Lynch shows us that returning to Twin Peaks was never an option.
The angels have all gone away.
