That being said, I like many of their music choices: LMF, the theme form the Fist of Fury, and δΈζ΅·η. If thereβs a season 2, it would be interesting to see if they will add more contemporary HK experiences and histories to Jimmy O. Yangβs character.
This makes sense since thereβs little sense to ask a Hong Kong born actor to play a Taiwanese American. No Taiwanese language is spoken in the show, kinda sucks though. If Willis Wu can escape narratives set out by HBWC, they cannot escape Chinese-ness.
The first half of the show might make little sense to people who havenβt watched the show though. One thing I was wondering before I watched the show was how they were going to adapt the more Taiwan specific elements in the novel-such as the allusion to 228. The short answer is that they didnβt.
Just finished Interior Chinatown. I enjoyed the novel, but had no expectation for the tv adaptation. I think they did a great job in capturing the core elements of the novel- the background actor analogy for Asian American people and the metaness of the novel.
